UPDATE: An anonymous donor has agreed to match any donations made from now on (now, being at $1,010), up to $500! So your gift of $5 is really like a $10 gift, $25 is like $50, etc.!!
On April 7, I will be giving my Master's Recital. I have asked for (and received) six new works for percussion solo/ensemble from six different composers (and one choreographer). The long of it is that I believe percussion performers are responsible for the expansion of our repertoire and have thus commissioned six composers and one choreographer for percussion works. The short of it is that I would like to pay said artists for their efforts.
Each composer has been working on his/her piece for the past two years, time for which they have thus far been uncompensated. Each deserve to be paid for the time and effort they spent working on these pieces for me.
With the money raised, I will also be paying for professional quality audio and video recordings. With those, I can [hopefully] help each of the composers get their pieces published. Additionally, I can use said recordings to help promote those pieces to other percussionists. Though the primary reason is to appease my adoring fans... :-)
Although I have a tiny amount of personal funds set aside to provide them with a meager reimbursement, I would like to give them what they have earned. --A typical commission fee for a single-work by a composer (that isn't world-famous) is $350-500.
There is a Facebook event set up, which I believe is public. This recital will feature seven new works for percussion (six I commissioned, one I wrote myself), it is part of the requirements for me to graduate, and it will hopefully be an important project to the percussion repertoire!
UPDATE: Although we have reached the goal of $1,000 (thanks to all of you wonderful backers!), 350x7 is a good bit more than the goal. So, be generous - whether doing so means $1 or $100. I will be forever grateful.
--Note: All extra moneys raised (no matter how far beyond the goal is raised) will be split between the creative team for this project - composers/choreographer, performers, audio/video engineers - and Second Presbyterian music & youth funds, for hosting this momentous event!
