About

Halimatou is a 44-year-old woman who seems to have everything under control, she has three beautiful children who study in the best schools in her country. She does the work she has always dreamed of doing, thanks to which she perfectly masters the image she wants to give of herself, namely that of a woman in love with justice that nothing stops. She also lives with a wonderful man, the kind of man she has always dreamed of having. Everything seems perfect, except that, all of this is just a facade. Halimatou keeps in her a past so heavy and difficult that she does everything to never think about it, until an event plunges her back into her darkness shattering her present, risking to crack this image and to upset this world that she has taken a long time to build.

What I wanted to show.

In writing "Halimatou", I was inspired by many facts that affect our societies in general. However, some subjects that particularly affect African societies have inspired me a lot. From the lack of communication between couples leading to divorce from feminism to early and forced marriages. Many girls marry before the age of 18. In Guinea, in my country of origin and nationality, 1 in 3 girls marry before their 18th birthday, and in 90% of cases, this marriage is forced and arranged. By using entertainment, I wanted to teach through my book on these phenomena while showing the many consequences that it could have on the evolution of these young girls, but also on society. Then there is another phenomenon which is polygamy, men have the possibility of having several women. The only problem is that they are often unfair to children depending on the degree of love they have for their mothers. Finally, in this book, I wanted to break this cliché we often have of the African continent. That is a continent with many wilderness areas, with extremely poor people. By developing my character in these two facets of Africa, Halimatou first evolves in a very traditional Africa where people are very poor materially but rich affectionately, then we find her in a rich and modern Africa.

I started writing this book when I was 14 years old. As I didn't have a laptop at the time, I asked my parents to buy me a small notebook. During the breaks, I preferred to sit in a corner of the classroom and write Halimatou's story. At first, I thought about writing the story of a young girl my age who would have a completely different life from mine, a young girl who lives in a remote village, with a polygamous father, who has still not been to school but whose biggest dream would be to go there.

It was at that age that I wrote Halimatou's past, using the first person to start with. Then when I turned 17, I realized that in my little notebook, I had only addressed the "tradition" aspect. It is on that moment  the idea came to me to change this world a little bit, to add the "modernity" and richness aspects. I then began to write her present. Without really realizing it, I started to describe a little bit about the woman I would like to become later. At 20 years old, growing up and with more maturity, I was able to detach myself from the main character, create her own personality while keeping the guideline I set for myself. At 21 years old I decided to do it in two volumes of 300 pages each.

In writing this book, although it is for a very large and broad audience and is aimed at all nationalities and cultures, I still wanted to send a two-dimensional message:

To these young girls who have not had the chance to go to school, to those who live in difficult environments, I wanted to show them that nothing is lost. With work and determination like Halimatou, we can live our dreams. Although we are in a society where we do not necessarily have this chance, thanks to courage and self-denial we can stand out.

Finally, to those young girls who, like me, have been fortunate enough to have parents, very loving, very devoted, who fight so that we can have the life we have always wanted, that we can each on our own small scale make things change. I used writing because it's my passion, others could use the song, theatre, etc.... Every action counts.

This book has been a way for me to express myself on the situation of women in Africa but also on feminism in general, these are subjects that are very close to my heart while taking great pleasure in writing it and having it read by my entourage.

In many African countries, many young girls do not have the opportunity to go to school. I wanted to take the opportunity I had to have wonderful parents who did everything they could to make me live my dreams, to do something that will have a positive impact on society. If this campaign is successful, all these nine years of work will come to fruition. I will have the opportunity to have it professionally corrected before sending it to a publishing house. But don't worry :D, for all contributors you will have this book before it is published.

The money will be used to do the layout, proofreading, English translation, printing costs and the cost of sending books to the backers.

 1. The Transparent girl:

Maya is a very shy 20-year-old girl who has been bullied throughout her schooling. Now she is a student in quantum physics at a university in the United States. She thought everything would change since she is at the University, except that it is not, she continues to be harassed. After one too many humiliations she decides to make a pact with Mona an entity she met in the basement toilets of her university to help her get revenge... except that everything doesn't go as planned.

2. Him or You:

Emmanuelle is a sparkling 26-year-old woman who works as a financial director in a company. Everything in her life is well structured. Go to work before 8:00, go out with her two best friends. She enjoyed this routine enormously until her two best friends Tony and Jonas decided to declare their love at the same time. Who will she choose? Tony with his passion? Or the long, quiet river that is Jonas ?

3. In the shoes of Fatoumata :

A dedicated 19-year-old girl, Fatoumata dropped out of school to sell vegetables at a market in Conakry to help her sick mother and two younger brothers. Nevertheless, she still hopes to go back to school one day and have the life of a girl her own age. Her life is all about going to the market to sell vegetables and buy medicines for her mother, until one day, a simple encounter, a small encounter will completely change her life and not just positively.

This link will give you access to two excerpts. The first from Chapter 3 and the second from Chapter 10. Thank you very much for coming to my project page and reading them. The book is originally written in French, I myself translated these excerpts into English until the translation is done by professionals.

About me:

My name is Kadiatou Condé, I am 23 years old. I am currently in my last year of a Master's degree in a business school based in Lyon, but I am doing a 4-month erassmus in London at the moment. I admit that it is a rather atypical journey, studying business next door and writing a book about social facts. But it turns out that writing is a passion for me. I was born and raised in Guinea when I was 18 years old. My parents decided to send me to France to continue my studies. At my university in Lyon, I did a first year in a double degree in sociology and economics. In the end I chose to continue my studies in economics. But that didn't stop me from following my passion. I have continued to write, I am very much inspired by human interactions, to tell the truth everything inspires me, I like to write on various and varied themes, such as harassment, family, etc. My first story I wrote it when I was 9 years old. I never stopped after that.

Risks and challenges

Every project involves risks. However, because I had worked on this for several years, I reduced them a lot.
I have finished writing Volume 1 which has 11 Chapters and approximately 75,000 words, in word format it has 160 pages, but in printed version it will be 300.
I am currently working on Volume 2, although it is not very easy with my classes and exams at school, but I am able to organize myself.
If all goes well, the timetable will be as follows:
From December to January: Kickstarter campaign;
From January to February: Correction and layout.
From February to March: Translation + impressions.
April: Sending books to contributors.
