Two-time Sundance-winning director tells the riveting stories of the tech revolution to feed the innovator in you.
My name is Ondi Timoner, documentary film director of DIG!, WE LIVE IN PUBLIC, Join Us, and Cool It. I've won the Sundance Film Festival Grand-Jury prize twice - once for DIG! in 2004, and again five years later for We Live In Public. Both of these films now reside in the permanent collection of the MoMA NY. It’s been a wild ride, and I have been blessed to shoot these stories and share them around the world.
And the adventure continues: My team and I have spent the last two years interviewing some of the most influential minds in technology for our web portal, A Total Disruption. I set out to do this, because I am fascinated by the people and ideas that are changing and shaping our lives each and every day. Tech innovation moves so fast that we’ve struggled to keep pace with all the riveting content. We have managed to collect 300 hours of footage and put out 50 episodes so far. And now we really, really need your help.
I’m asking for your support, so I can keep bringing you these vital stories, and enhance your experience with them in even more empowering ways. This project has been super-punk so far, but we’ve outgrown ourselves.
Why did I begin this amazing journey? Why am I passionately distributing these stories for free? Because I realized that we are living in the midst of the greatest revolution in human history, but the stories of this unprecedented era of innovation are not being told in ways that everyone can enjoy, understand, and connect with. And so I've turned my lens on this oft-intimidating industry, and its infinitely inspiring leaders, to empower all of us to get smarter and faster, together. By sharing our stories, we can all learn how to make our own visions fly, or figure out how to make a life doing what we love. There is an unprecedented opportunity right now, and I want us all to have the power and knowledge to seize it.
So far we’ve interviewed over 100 captivating innovators and entrepreneurs. During the past two years, we chased down the best minds changing the world through technology, media and entertainment. And there are so many more stories we want to tell!
HELP US BRING THESE STORIES TO YOU!
Viva La Disrupción!
- Ondi Timoner, A Total Disruption
Who Have We Interviewed?
Notable episodes include Alexis Ohanian of Reddit, Kevin Systrom of Instagram, Tony Hsieh of Zappos, Bram Cohen of Bit Torrent, and Reid Hoffman of LinkedIn, all of which can be found at atotaldisruption.com as part of seven unique web series.
GOAL #1 - THE EPISODES
Right now, we have 50 completed and edited interviews in 7 different web series that you can watch RIGHT NOW at www.atotaldisruption.com. But that’s just the tip of the iceberg, people. We have over 100 additional interviews that we have yet to edit, and every day we learn about another dynamic innovation that requires investigation. IF we are successful with this campaign, we'll be interviewing Jack Dorsey (Founder of Twitter and Square) and other chief disruptors in San Francisco next month!
History is happening around us right now, and we are determined to make sure that we capture it, and transform it into something we can all learn and benefit from. By supporting ATD, you will guarantee that we continue to produce at least one episode a week of groundbreaking tech innovation to feed the innovator in you.
GOAL #2 - THE DATABASE
We are creating a never-before-seen repository for the stories of technology, as they unfold, accessible through one singular online portal.
We know a web series episode can only tell so much of the story. For every 5 minute video we produce, we film between 1 and 2 full hours of each subject as they convey a wealth of valuable information and insight. The solution: We will convert these hundreds of hours of interviews into a highly searchable database where all of the experience and knowledge of the biggest minds in tech will be at your fingertips.
Learn in detail about every aspect of their experience from what motivates them, to their successes, failures, and everything in between. Tech fans, innovators, entrepreneurs, venture capitalists, schools, universities, and historians will be able to plunder this knowledge database for years to come. It can become a time-capsule of the revolution we are still experiencing in our lives each and every day.
GOAL #3 - THE NEW CEA SERIES - Season One: Amanda Palmer
Who is Amanda Palmer? Not only is she an epic musician (best known for The Dresden Dolls), but she had one of the most successful individual campaigns on Kickstarter, raising over 1.1 million dollars to produce her next album. Wow! How did she do it? She harnessed the power of social media and the enthusiasm of her devoted fan base - not just for her art, but for her inspired mission to change the way the game is played.
If this campaign is successful, we will launch a unique new series called CEA (Chief Executive Artist), taking a look at innovators in the fields of art and music. We will begin by chronicling Amanda's next world tour - which is dedicated to playing for the fans that contributed to her unparalleled crowdfunding success. By leveraging technology to become a successful CEA, she turns the business into an art form in and of itself. Amanda's story is one everyone can learn from and reproduce-- a singular story that represents the larger zeitgeist in which we all live.
Once the series gets kicking, we will release these episodes on A Total Disruption every week - following Amanda's tour of house parties, Ninja Gigs, and many other disruptive events to be revealed. The more money we raise here, the further we can go - both geographically and in terms of number of episodes!

Thank You, Disruptors!
I hope you will become a part of the documentation of the disruption, one of the biggest shifts in human history. I look forward to the other side of this campaign, empowered to bring the revolution to you!!!
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
A note from the Interloper Team: On the spectrum of risk, A Total Disruption has remarkably little risk of not being completed. First off, you have one of the most successful, hardworking, and determined documentary filmmakers in the world directing the effort. Ondi's track record speaks for itself: http://www.imdb.com/name/nm0863756/
For the database, our editors are ready to begin the steps of transcoding, cataloguing, tagging, and uploading the hundreds of hours of interviews onto our servers. All of this is professionally budgeted and thought out to ensure success!
If we reach our fundraising goal, our now eight series (we're including the new CEA: Amanda Palmer adventure) will continue, and with a few new and key crew members joining the team, so that our database can soon gift the world with unmatchable quality wisdom. Please do believe in and support ATD. You will become a part of a project that may indeed become film history, chronicling the disruption you're now a part of!!
