Bain's Redemption is a third person shooter/slasher with a unique cutting technology.
Have you ever wanted to be a game designer? Or ever played a game and thought, "man, they could have made this part so much better if they just did this... or that...?" Well... this may be your opportunity to have an active role in the development of a groundbreaking new comic book style shooter/slasher, that takes gameplay and enjoyment to a whole new level... Enter Bain's Redemption.
Bain is a highly decorated ex-black ops marine who is a top operative in the special gang unit of the Madison City Police Department. He conducts undercover operations trying to diffuse the violence with the gangs in the town. The town has a huge gang problem, but the most prominent and notorious ones are ACiD and Torque; their fighting has been causing collateral damage all over the city for years.
Bain through his operation work dealing with the gangs has realized that his own department has been conducting under table dealings with the gangs and that the greed for money and power has made his own comrades turn their back on public service.
Through the assistance of the police force, ACiD attempts to set up a multi-million-dollar drug cartel, with the police department acting as a liason. This doesn't sit well with Bain's conscience and seeing the police force lost to corruption and the influence of the gangs, he contemplates quitting the force.
The gangs get wind of Bain's decision to step down and see him as a liability. They commission an assassin task-force to gun him down at his residence.
A couple days later, one night, Bain goes out to get popcorn for his daughter as they are getting ready to watch a movie. The assassins arrive at Bain's residence to take him out. They arrive at the house and quickly realize Bain's absence, but find a startled mother and daughter sitting on the couch. The wife screams for Bain, but is quickly struck down by one of the goons. A series of chain-linked events occur, but the goons accidentally kill the wife.
As the goons argue about how they botched up the hit and are scared themselves of their own fate, they end up killing the daughter too. Bain arrives at the scene and sees his wife's lifeless body on the ground with a blank frightened stare focused permanently on her daughter's body across the floor. Bain then runs to his daughter's body, sees the murder weapon and holds his daughter's lifeless body. As he holds her, his daughter looks up at him and whispers "Daddy..." as she breathes her last breath. His eyes go blank.
Sirens are heard in the background as the police arrives. The cops scream "get down", but a bewildered Bain does not comprehend what is transpiring around him.
Later while on trial, Bain proves to be inept to defend himself since he has lost his sanity. Bain is sentenced by a judge to the Madison City Asylum. The Asylum has been infiltrated by the thugs in the town and is pretty much gang run. The game starts as Bain finally regains a hair of sanity and decides to break out.
With Bain's Redemption, we have created a new kind of game that brings forth physical realism to the realm of gaming and to the gamer. Through what we call our "cutting edge" technology, and we call it that because it's exactly that, it's our cutting technology. So, here is how it works:
In Bain's redemption, how your foe dies really depends on how you interact with his physiology. Our engine renders any cutting or slashing on the spot and the result of what you see after a successful kill is totally determined by the exactly location of the blade and the body.
Bain's Redemption is a new kind of game that promises hours of gameplay and enjoyment. We have a robust game engine and the code necessary to bring our game to life. We also have the blueprint for the game an exciting story behind it. What we are missing now is artwork and level building. That's where you come in... we need your help in creating the content and selecting artwork to build out our game to completion.
How Can you Participate?
So we said that we want your participation in the development of this project, and so here's how you can do that. We have created a forum at http://bainsredemption.com/forums for both pledging and non-pledging fans to act as our think tank for the game. With each prototype release of the game we want to get your feedback and comments on everything good, bad, or unfathomable you've experienced while playing the game. We'll take your feedback and suggestions to our developers and seriously consider them.
We believe all feedback we receive will help us make the game better. Of course, those who are the highest contributing members will have the most influence on how this game will evolve. However, every participant's input is seriously considered. An example of some of the game collateral we may need your help on is the selection of different UI elements for the game (see below).
Where Does Your Money Go?
We're kicking off this project on Kickstarter, because we think this is the best medium for us to expose our game to the right audience who are apt to come on this exciting journey with us.
Your money goes directly to pay for the artists, level builders, and programmers to flesh out this game to its entire 6 milestone levels highlighted below. We are already working with a highly experienced team of artists and animators whose work has been featured in such titles as God of War, etc. Through your help we can continue to work with this talented team to bring this game to the publishing table.
Risks and challenges Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
As in every worthwhile effort, nothing ventured is nothing gained. Our biggest risk would be not being able to get enough funding to complete the entire game. But say we come up short. This is where we have to get creative. For example, say we get enough funding for 3 levels in the game, but not the whole game. What can we do? Well, we'll have to discuss it with our team and the people who have pledged and take a vote. Right off the bat, we do have a couple options:
1) Release a shorter than planned version of the game. This would be a fully playable and enjoyable game that doesn't end where the game design doc says it should. Ideally this would be the last resort, but would be better than not releasing the game at all.
2) Find a publisher to bring the game to completion. This is more desirable, but then there is more corporate red tape and hurdles to jump through. This would be a preferred option, but we don't want to go there unless we have to.
We have other options as we gain more support and traction through this process, so we'll leave it to hearing from our fans and go from there. After all, this is for you and so we'd like you to have a voice in our game project.
Windows only at the moment. While we would like to support Mac, we will need extra resources to do so. If funding reaches the 2nd stretch goal, we will support Mac as well!
