This year the mission is to bring vicarious living to gamers throughout the world with no less than 30 interviews and game demos / play throughs. Plus, I'm sure there will be some other cool bits along the way. Like I might run into the cast of The Tournament or Beasties and Bygones. You just never know when that wild moment is there to seen.
Who is this for?
Maybe you're a part of Gen Can't or you're in another part of the world and can't make the show, or maybe you are going to Gen Con 2018 but will be too busy to take it all in.
This project is for gamers everywhere!
I have delivered Gen Con coverage through Kickstarters in the past:
Every year I've delivered more than I guaranteed in my Kickstarter. Why? Because I love sharing what I learn! Further, only a few vlogs bring you more content than I do at Gen Con - and most of them have a team!
I'm Matt Lemke from Through Gamer Goggles and this is my fifth Kickstarter. I might be a veteran. It will be a fun journey and it is a relatively low funding goal - and I have been told I sell myself for far too little. That may be true, but for me there is a desire to share everything I learn about the industry. You can read a full bio here but the video below pretty much sums it up!
$850.00 - Road To Gen Con Unlocked!
I will create a Road to Gen Con 2018 blog page that discusses:
- game releases
- preshow interviews
- survival tips
- and anything else Gen Con 2018 related
This stretch goal begins the moment it is unlocked.
$1,000.00 - Two Restaurant Reviews Unlocked
Last year I reviewed Harry and Izzy's and Top Box Pizza. This year I will do two more reviews. Restaurants will be determined once unlocked.
$1,250.00 The Gamers Guide to Indianapolis
The Gamers Guide will be the perfect addition for any one traveling to Indianapolis. It will include history, information on lodging, parking tips, restaurant reviews, tips to survive a game convention, travel and more. This will be a living document with updates every time I learn something new!
$1,500.00 - More Content!
I will guarantee you 40 original video - interviews, demos, or play throughs.
$1,700.00 Fish Taco
I have never made a fish taco This stretch goal will unlock a live video experience of me creating my very first fish taco, plus posts about everything leading up to the experience!
$2,000.00 Written Adventure
This stretch goal will unlock the first adventure of Rats Rising. An adventure for players who are exploring the cold lands of Thespia.
Thespia is a country in Awd L'Ttorm a fantasy game world created by Matt Lemke.
$2,500.00 A Crazy Fish Taco
I will create the worlds craziest fish taco ever! Something you get to help me design through polls and screaming to the world! It will however have a brownie base.
$3,000.00 More Extra Video Content (bad English Intended)
I will produce ten more videos at Gen Con plus a live or near live daily recap (depending on my Internet) that is roughly 30 minutes long on Facebook. This will be late, around midnight.

Product Overview and Game Preview Levels
Holy crap Matt, $125 for five minutes that's like $1,500 an hour - are you crazy?! No I'm not. There is a lot more value to a six minute video than you realize. That cost includes all studying of your game, scripting, equipment rental if needed, filming and editing time. Depending on the complexity of the game that can easily reach forty hours and often more.
Game Overview includes the previewing of your product. I will open the box and preview the pieces of your game and the basic premise (number of players, theme, basic mechanics, genre, etc.) of the game.
The Game Preview Level includes the Game Overview, plus it covers the mechanics and game play. This is not a play through of the game. Now in some instances a game that is very quick to learn and fast to play, might include a full game. For product previews and overviews there is a lead time of 6 weeks. Please, don't send me a game and say we launch or need the video in seven days, because it won't happen. If you want a quality video then I need at least 6 weeks to work on it. This allows us to produce the best content we can together. What's even better is that in the end, these videos are yours. If you would like I can and will share to my social media and post it to Through Gamer Goggles. If published to my YouTube channel, I reserve the right to use my introduction and closing credits.
Risks and challenges
There are not a lot of risks associated with this Kickstarter. The biggest risk is working with manufacturers to get you the promos, but I have most of those already. That's only one point of failure. What about the content? What could prevent the fulfillment of that? There are really only a couple of things. My work schedule could change, which wouldn't prevent me from producing content, but it could certainly mess with the schedule and delay me for a little bit. Or some unfortunate event could occur, such as being bitten by a radioactive spider - and then I would have to hang up my camera and dedicate my life to crime fighting.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
