The Convention Experience @ Gen Con 2014 (Canceled)
Through Gamer Goggles wants to bring you the convention experience at Gen Con 2014! Special events, game reviews, interviews, and more!
I am Matt Lemke from Through Gamer Goggles, gamer-goggles.com, and I want to bring you the convention experience.
The Convention Experience at Gen Con 2014 is about many things, but here is where it begins:
- First, we want to give our backers the opportunity to experience more of the convention than they would normally be able to with the time that they have.
- We also want to bring you access to parts of the show you wouldn't normally get to see or do, like interviews with designers, preview games of future releases, and game debuts you might miss.
- We want to produce 30 to 50 videos total. This is at least 3 times the coverage I was able to provide previously.
- Our ultimate goal is for this project to touch every backer, broadening their personal experience before, during, and after the convention.
About the Project
Our basic goal is for me and one other person to cover the show by filming ten interviews plus however many game demos I manage to work into the schedule. Of course there will also be a ton of photos that will be posted to Facebook, Google+, and the blog.
If we manage to hit the $5K mark, then "Double Coverage" is unlocked. This will allow me to add another crew of 2 or 3 people for even more coverage. We will commit to working the convention during exhibit hall hours (or its equivalent) every day. You can read more about it in the stretch goals.
If we move beyond $5K, we will really be able to start giving things back to our supporters. Some of these services will seem small, like snapping a photo for an album, but it's about the time and effort involved to help create a memory for you.
What is Through Gamer Goggles?
Through Gamer Goggles is a news and media blog about the gaming industry. We often have video reviews on products, release information, and instructional commentaries. Gamer Goggles is also about blending our gaming lives with the real world, which is why we want to bring the Convention experience home to you. It is our way of sharing these moments and giving them back to you.
Here is coverage that we did on Gen Con 2012.
There are seven basic pledge levels, some unique limited pledges, a series of service oriented pledges, and a limited sponsorship pledge.
Level 1 -- This pledge is for those of you that want to be a part of something special. We will put your name on our sponsorship wall using a green plaque.
Level 2 -- Pledge is designed for those individuals who want to help and might think it is cool to shake our hand, plus you get the gift of a pen/stylus and the level 1 pledge.
Level 3 -- Congratulations, you're an attendee! You receive a custom badge holder and the level 1 and 2 pledges.
Level 4 -- Get special recognition for your support. We will call your name out during one of our videos, interviews, Box Breakings, or a Figure Forge before Gen Con 2015. Plus you receive the previous levels 1, 2, and 3.
Level 5 -- At this level your name will be a part of our blog for one year. All backers at this level will have their name added to the header of our web page. The names will scroll or rotate through on a continuous loop for a year. This pledge includes levels 1, 2, 3, and 4.
Level 6 -- Backer only perks, which will only grow as our funding does. This will begin with exclusive backer forums where you can hang out with us and chat about anything under the sun. Who knows, we might even play a game or two! Plus the level 6 backers will earn the levels 1, 2, 3, 4, and 5.
Level 7 -- At this point you're a member of the family. You receive a Through Gamer Goggles ID card and messenger bag. Plus levels 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, and 6.
You matter -- Let the world know what you think of your favorite game. Any one who does this should plan for two minutes of camera time.
Coffee with the crew -- Exactly what it says it is! Join us for our morning coffee at Gen Con. Time and location will be determined once funded.
Signed games -- Buy a copy of a game signed by the creator! We currently have Forged in Fire, The Alpha Rules for Heavy Gear Blitz, and Zpocalypse.
Signing of Forged in Fire from Origins Game Fair.
In the last year we have done some Kickstarter-related videos for designers. We thoroughly enjoyed these experiences and we would like to do more.
Our service oriented pledges will revolve around our Preview Service packages. They can be viewed here if you want to check out our regular package. For this project we are going to offer a special rate that is based on the deadline as opposed to the amount of time we put into the video. What does that mean? It means that you will get the same product for less! There are four of these available with pricing based on the time until the deadline.
"During my time at Dream Pod 9, I have had the pleasure of working with Through Gamer Goggles on several occasions. Each time, Matt has proven to be a talented media expert dedicated to bringing the gamer community accurate and professionally presented content that informs as well as entertains." --John Nguyen
Our last service is sponsorship advertising and is geared toward manufacturers. You can purchase a quarter of our screen for ten seconds at the beginning of each video filmed at Gen Con 2014. This time may be shared by as many as three other sponsors.
Attendee Interviews (unlocked at $3,700) -- Described in stretch goals.
Become an interviewer (unlocked at $4,000) -- Described in stretch goals.
Photo Shoot (unlocked at $7,000) -- Described in stretch goals.
Backer Party (unlocked at $12,000) -- Described in stretch goals.
$3,500: +5 interviews
When we reach the $3,500 mark we will add 5 interviews to the list. I can do this with a little more dedication.
$3,700: +6 Attendee Interviews [Add-on]
At this level we will open the door to six individuals who want to sit down with us and share there Gen Con 2014 experience with us. Six individuals can be interviewed on the last day of the con. This is a $20 add-on.
$4,000: You Pick the Interviews [Add-on]
This stretch goal unlocks the add-on for picking an interview and being a guest interviewer. $30 gets you the choice of who we interview.
Please give us 3 names or manufacturers/designers in order of priority. Scheduling interviews at Gen Con isn't going to be easy, and we may run into some situations where a backup plan is needed. We will do our best to have a schedule before the show.
$4,500: Camera Equipment Upgrade
At this level we will add some camera equipment to our arsenal that will aid us in our interviews. These items will include any or all of the following: a microphone, back up batteries, more storage devices, camera bag, a heavy duty tripod, and maybe some wide angle lenses.
$5,000: Double Coverage
We will add a second crew. That's right, a second crew will open up the door for ten more interviews, additional game demos, and more. We will strive our best to hit new and debuting games for these videos. That would make the running total 25+ videos.
This is truly where all of the fun begins!
$5,500: +5 More Interviews/Game Demos
Thank you for bringing us this far! Five more interviews and/or game demos unlocked. That brings the running total to 30+ videos.
$6,000: Photo Tier Unlocked
This is a bonus level available to everyone who pledged (level 1 up).
At this point we would like to give our sincere thanks to you and do our best to make this a better show for you. Anyone who has backed the project can have their photo taken by us and added to the Gen Con experience photo album. And if you would like to have a copy of the photo we will email it to you.
We will set up every day at a designated location and time with a camera designated just for these photos.
Special note: if you are a volunteer or an exhibitor who cannot make it to us but you want to be a part of this album, contact us! We will do what we can to get you in, even if it means coming to your booth.
More to come....
Risks and challenges
If Through Gamer Goggles doesn't succeed with this project, we won't be able to attend Gen Con to provide media coverage and improve your experience.
The biggest challenge we will face is coordinating all of the cool stuff that might potentially be unlocked. If we hit some of the larger stretch goals, I might just need a personal assistant!
The second largest challenge of this project will be to get the rewards to you without slowing down our production time. We are working with other companies to brand some of the rewards you will receive. It is possible that these companies may run into unexpected delays; if this happens we will inform you as soon as it has been brought to our attention.
We should note that these companies are all in the US and are highly recommended by manufacturers in the gaming industry.
Anyone who has used us to do a review will tell you that we are timely and diligent in our efforts. To reflect that as a supporter you will see regular updates from us during this project.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
