We have passed our funding goal of $45K!! And you guys went beyond the call of duty and now we can dream a little bigger. Thank you so much, your love and support made it all happen! Now comes THE FUN PART. You might be wondering, "can I still pledge if you already got funded?" Of course you can! Our funding goal represented the bare minimum we needed to finish the movie with the scope and polish it deserves, but having more funding will ensure that we can deliver to you an even more amazing looking and sounding movie! To that end, here are the "THE BEGINNING IS NEAR" STRETCH GOALS. Every time we unlock a goal ALL THE BACKERS old and new will receive a new reward (listed below) in addition to the ones that already come with their pledge levels.
- UNLOCKED!! $47,500.00 - WINK ME A BOT: The WebCam practical puppet designed by Daniel Carrasco Jabalera and built by Nacho Díaz was a beauty to behold. The only thing we couldn't get it to do due to limitations in time and budget was blinking and winking. While the puppeteer's performance and sound design will bring our robotic hero to life, more subtle emotions like glaring and sadness can be really enhanced if WebCam blinks or winks, and once we unlock this stretch goal we will be able to add this important character detail in post.
- UNLOCKED!! REWARD: Every backer will receive a PDF of "WEBCAM: APOCALYPSE," the prequel to WEBCAM: THE MOVIE. Written by WEBCAM director Nicolas Delgado, this short story tells of the events leading up to our movie. If you were wondering what happened to the world in our story, why James is locked in a bunker and how he came to have a hovering WebCam bot as his sidekick, you won't wanna miss it! With original illustrations by artist Diego Velasquez.
- $50,000.00 - RENDER ME MORE: After all the animation and visual effects work is done, rendering is the process by which the computer turns the models and assets into photoreal images. All those amazing effects in ROGUE ONE and DOCTOR STRANGE have to be rendered before they reach the screen. Often the difference between an okay effect and a jaw-dropping one is how much information is rendered. The more information the image has, the more photoreal the result is but this requires more computing processing and rendering time, making it a costly process. This stretch goal will take our images from great into the realm of awesomeness!
- REWARD: "THE BADGE OF HOPE: Every backer with a digital pledge will receive an exclusive WEBCAM MISSION PATCH PDF and every physical backer will receive a physical custom embroidered WEBCAM MISSION PATCH. This patch will never be produced again - it's just for our backers!
- $60,000 - THE SOUND OF MUSIC: We have an incredible composer, Jay Vincent, and he's going to use some cutting edge digital techniques to create the music for the film, but we would love to have an orchestral score at the base and then add to that electronically. While scores fully created by sampling can be great, there is a heart and a soul that real performers bring to a score that we would love to have on WEBCAM, as it is a very human story. Unlocking this goal will allow us to do that and give our movie that extra bit of soul.
- REWARD: LIMITED EDITION PRINT: WEBCAM artist Diego Velasquez will create a special piece of concept art should we unlock this goal. This exclusive piece signed by the artist and director Nick Delgado will be sent as a PDF to our digital backers and as physical limited print to all our physical backers.

Starring Drew Van Acker and Dichen Lachman, WEBCAM follows James, a distraught man who thinks himself alone amidst the aftermath of our world’s downfall in the not-so-distant future. He lives a solitary life within a sealed bunker, high above what remains of London, taking refuge from the ravages of a world run amok. James’ only companion is a small artificially intelligent camera drone named WebCam, ironically without purpose in a world with no one left alive with whom to communicate. Forlorn and losing sight of his reason to continue living, James prepares to make the ultimate sacrifice…until at the last second, WebCam receives a signal for an incoming transmission. There’s somebody else out there…who will change James’ life, and the fate of humanity, forever.
WEBCAM is a 10-minute short film with an exciting new take on the post-apocalypse genre that will show that even after the world crumbles, there will still be hope. Once completed, this short will serve as the basis for a full-length version of the story. While we have already completed production on the short, your contributions will allow us to add the vital visual effects, sound design, and a soundtrack so we can use the finished piece as a pitching tool to attract Hollywood talent, producers, and distributors to make a spectacular feature film with high-end production values and international appeal that can fully explore James' dangerous future.
By contrasting the stark, sweeping visuals of a world overrun with destruction against one man’s drive to overcome impossible odds and reunite with what remains of humanity, we hope to bring a new uplifting spin to the beloved dystopic genre. Using a mixture of practical sets and state of the art computer animation, we will simultaneously pay tribute to such epic sci-fi films as I AM LEGEND, THE MATRIX and OBLIVION as well as to such optimistic and inspirational survival tales as CAST AWAY and LIFE OF PI to create a story with a new and unique tone.
As lifelong fans of classic science fiction cinema like STAR WARS and ALIENS with physical creature effects and hand-built sets, the team behind WEBCAM strove to pay tribute to these classic techniques in every facet of our production. While key elements of the film will be heightened or expanded using digital animation and computer graphics, we wanted James’ world to feel real and tactile and to show the wear and tear of our post-apocalypse in every rivet and dent in his bunker walls. To this effect, a fully functional Bunker set was built from the ground up, complete with functional light fixtures, and distressed walls and hatches made out of hand carved and painted foams and plastics.
Additionally, for WebCam himself, we wanted his personality to come to life via a puppeteer performing the character on set against Drew Van Acker’s James. Rather than create him digitally and add him in post-production, we had a physical WebCam puppet built and designed by Nacho Diaz (whose credits include director Peter Jackson’s THE HOBBIT Trilogy and director Guillermo del Toro’s CRIMSON PEAK) to help make sure we got the most out of his plucky, stubborn and sometimes mischievous personality.
WEBCAM is a love letter to the classic sci-fi films of the 70’s and 80’s, and we made sure that in crafting the world of the film, we used the same techniques that made those films great.
DREW VAN ACKER (Training Day, Pretty Little Liars, Tower Prep) as “James”
Drew Van Acker got his first taste of acting in his high school drama class in Medford, New Jersey, which sparked an immediate passion for both the stage and the big screen. While attending Towson University, Drew took two theater courses and determined that he needed to focus his attention on his acting career. He then moved to New York City to study acting and once he saved enough money, he relocated to Los Angeles to continue to pursue his dream of acting professionally in television and film. Since moving to Los Angeles, Drew has gone on to become a series regular on Lifetime’s DEVIOUS MAIDS, series lead on Cartoon Network’s TOWER PREP and has been recurring on Freeform’s PRETTY LITTLE LIARS. Drew can soon be seen as Tommy Campbell on the new CBS drama series TRAINING DAY.

DICHEN LACHMAN (Dollhouse, Marvel's Agents of SHIELD, The 100) as “Kitty”
Dichen Lachman was born in Kathmandu, Nepal where she lived until she was six and a half years old. She moved to Adelaide, Australia in late 1988 with her family. Her mother is Nepalese of Tibetan origin and her Australian father is of German heritage. Dichen moved to Los Angeles shortly after she finished with the Australian TV drama NEIGHBORS in 2007, and soon thereafter was cast as Sierra in Joss Whedon’s cult sci-fi hit series DOLLHOUSE. She has also appeared in LAST RESORT, SHAMELESS, THE 100, MARVEL’S AGENTS OF SHIELD and is currently starring in TNT’s THE LAST SHIP. She was recently cast as the villainous Roulette on The CW's SUPERGIRL, and also on Netflix’s upcoming sci-fi drama ALTERED CARBON.

We have assembled an incredible crew, with credits ranging from the creature effects departments of Peter Jackson’s epic THE HOBBIT trilogy to the concept art team from Guillermo del Toro’s CRIMSON PEAK to the prosthetics department for HBO's GAME OF THRONES. We have gathered an impressive team who have all contributed their tremendous talents to help us make this hopeful and ambitious proof-of-concept short film truly shine.
NICK DELGADO, Writer-Director
Nick Delgado is an award-winning filmmaker from Madrid, Spain. Nick attended USC’s School of Cinematic Arts where he was mentored by filmmaker Robert Zemeckis (WHO FRAMED ROGER RABBIT, THE BACK TO THE FUTURE TRILOGY). Under Zemeckis’s auspices, Nick wrote and directed THE MACABRE WORLD OF LAVENDER WILLIAMS, starring Christopher Lloyd and John Lithgow. Nick has directed branded content and commercials for such brands as Tostitos and DEFY Media.

ÁLVARO MARTÍN BLANCO, Director of Photography
Alvaro Martín Blanco was trained at the Fine Arts Faculty of the University of Basque Country and has won awards for his cinematography in international film festivals ranging from Hollywood to Bulgaria to Spain. Alvaro has worked with such brands as Disney, the LA Lakers, and the El Rey Network.

Nacho Díaz is a Spanish make up and creature effects artist with more than fifteen years of experience in the film and television business. He has worked with such acclaimed directors as Nacho Vigalondo, J.A. Bayona and Enrique Urbizu, supervising make up effects department in more than 20 movies. Nacho has also worked on Peter Jackson’s THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG, as Key Creature Effects artist for Guillermo Del Toro's CRIMSON PEAK for 6 months in Toronto, and as a Make Up FX artist for HBO’s GAME OF THRONES.

Ari Levinson is the founder and VFX Supervisor of Leonid Studios, a VFX house which has provided visuals for feature films, television, and commercials for the last 10 years. Past commercial clients include Infiniti, Nissan, Gatorade, Activision, EA, Flickr, Yahoo, DJI, and many others, as well as feature films of all sizes from GREEN HORNET, to indies like AUGUST and MARGIN CALL. Ramiro Cazaux is a designer and filmmaker from Los Angeles. He specializes in Direction, Art Direction, and Production Design for animation, live-action, and live entertainment. Ramiro has worked for animation studios such as SOUTH PARK, BentoBox, and Partizan. He co-founded Yozux Studios, a successful animation and visual effects boutique studio. Ramiro worked for South Park in the Art Department, creating storyboards and production design for the weekly show as well as their video games.

DAVID SERVER, Producer
Born and raised in Boston, Massachusetts, David Server is a graduate of USC’s School of Cinematic Arts. He has written for several different comic book publishers, including “Freakshow” for Ape Entertainment, “The Penguins of Madagascar” for DreamWorks Animation, and “The New Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Adventures” for IDW Publishing and Nickelodeon. David also works as an entertainment manager at Archetype, representing screenwriters, directors, and fellow comic book creators including Darick Robertson, whose work is being adapted into series for Cinemax and Syfy. David is also attached as a producer to the film adaptation of the graphic novel “Lost Squad."
STAGE 1 - CONCEPT
Working off of his initial story idea and treatment for the feature-length version of this story, Nick crafted a screenplay, with an assist from screenwriter Dan Wilson (who has worked for such Hollywood heavyweights as Sony Pictures and The Walt Disney Company), for our short proof-of-concept film. He also generated his initial sketches and storyboards to lay the groundwork for his vision of James' post-apocalyptic future. These designs were then passed along to character designer Daniel Carrasco (CRIMSON PEAK, A MONSTER CALLS) to help fully flesh out Nick's vision.
STAGE 2 - CONSTRUCTION
After the design phase was completed, we went to work building our Bunker set based on the designs generated by our art team and as designed by our Production Designer, Ramiro Cazaux (SOUTH PARK), along with Visual Consultant Rachel Robb Kondrath (DRUNK HISTORY). Using materials that were hand-sculpted and painted by our production team, we built a fully functional Bunker set for James to inhabit. Meanwhile, in his studio in Madrid, our puppet builder Nacho Diaz (THE HOBBIT: THE DESOLATION OF SMAUG, GAME OF THRONES) hand sculpted and painted our star robot, WebCam, before sending him to us for production.
STAGE 3 - PRODUCTION
Once the Bunker was fully functional and our WebCam puppet had arrived in the US and was ready to go before cameras, we assembled our all-star cast, Drew Van Acker (PRETTY LITTLE LIARS, TOWER PREP, TRAINING DAY) and Dichen Lachman (DOLLHOUSE, MARVEL'S AGENTS OF SHIELD, THE 100), on our Bunker set and rolled the cameras. After a complex shoot involving a combination of physical locations integrated with greenscreen elements for future effects, the footage was ready for post-production. That's where you come in!
Did you say you already SHOT IT?
We did! Thanks to our team of wonderful artists and craftsmen in our crew who built our set to perfect specifications, we were able to gather our cast and production team together late last year and film the proof of concept short film in its entirety. Our cast did a phenomenal job bringing the story of James and Kitty (and WebCam!) to life, and we cannot wait to share it with you. We already have a rough first cut of the film, and are excited to be able to finish bringing it to life – with your help!
If you already shot it, where does MY MONEY go?
Despite already having a rough cut of the film, there is a tremendous amount of work that’s still left to do before the film is complete. While physical production means many elements of James’ world are already captured on screen rather than an ocean of green screen, even the physical production elements have numerous complicated and costly requirements still left unfinished.
Key remaining post-production costs include:

With production already behind us we have already avoided some of the bigger risks associated with filmmaking, but while this process is typically a challenging endeavor even in post-production, our team of seasoned professionals with years of experience among them are committed to and capable of delivering a superlative film that will make all of its contributors proud to have been along for the ride, and the same will apply to the effects technicians we bring on board to help bring the world of WEBCAM to life.
