Waverly is a bucolic little Alabama town that 184 (yes, one hundred and eighty-four) residents call home. The Annual Boogie is renowned for it's beautiful scenery and hospitable spring weather which only adds to the Southern ambiance that sets the background for the fine bands and musicians that are featured during this one day gathering of connoisseurs of culture. The Old 280 Boogie is also home to a row or two of select eclectic artisans and modern farmers that market their goods and wares. The Boogie was begun in 2001 when state highway 280 bypassed the town and the residents held a festival to celebrate and "dance in the street." The bypass literally took the equivalent of an interstate highway out of the center of a 1910 Mayberry-like town. Thus, "dancing in the street" was called for! The event has evolved from a small community event into a national drawing that supports two to three thousand attendees.
The event is held in the neighborhood outdoor amphitheater at Standard Deluxe Inc., across a spreading lawn under tall pine trees. All attendees bring their own chairs, blankets and picnic baskets and enjoy a beautiful afternoon with neighbors and friends.
