King's Fire/Final Mixing & Mastering Release date TBDelayed (just a bit)
Hello to My Faithful Supporters & Backers / aka "Team El Dorado" !
It's been a while since I last updated, and for good reason. Currently, my house is located in the Community of Camino, Ca., and our mountain has been under threat of the Historic King's Fire. You may have seen it on the news. At one point the Fire was only 2 miles from our home. Firefighters have been most amazing and today are doing offensive dozer work re-inforcing our fire break on the SW/SE flank of the fire. More about that soon.
The last few weeks of August into the First few weeks of September were VERY busy. My Mom visited from Mississippi and was able to come to Prairie Sun Studios in Cotati and meet my Grammy Nominated Guru Producer, Mooka Rennick, who has become one of my dearest friends during the last year. Making a record with love brings people closer, and he will surely be on any future projects I do. The mix & creativity involved are of the highest quality, and I'm sure the fidelity will be able to stand next to the best of the best when all is said and done. Our Mini Murph, my youngest daughter, also celebrated her 11th B'day. Her Grandmother was there as we celebrated, per Lyba's request, with Mooka & our head engineer, Jared Havens at Prairie Sun. http://prairiesun.com/
We came back from the studio, my Mom from Mississippi, in tow and continued on with a very packed schedule.
Dear Friend and Celebrity Photographer, Bob Minkin, flew up to do the Album Cover photo Shoot as well. It was an amazing experience!! Special Thanks to the Teie Family for allowing us the honor of using their historical ranch as a back drop for this shoot! And a Quick shout out to Kimberly Synder who did alterations to my corset for cover shot ;) Yes, I said Corset (whistle!). Bob's book, "Live Dead the Grateful Dead Photographed by Bob Minkin", will be out in just a few weeks! This 224 page 12” x 9” coffee table style book, is a stunning retrospective of forty years of Grateful Dead concerts through the lens of renowned photographer Bob Minkin. https://www.facebook.com/BobMinkinPhotography
I also opened for the Amazing LISA LOEB at the Sweetwater, which was a magical experience. Evidently she & her musical counterparts were aware of my new CD coming out. She's a legendary singer/songwriter, and to this day the only Platinum selling artist to do so w/o every signing a Record Deal. Cool! I got to hang out w/ her and John McCrea, the founder of the legendary rock band, Cake, and really enjoyed their down to earth camaraderie.
A Few days later, I headed out for my weekend performances at the American River Music Festival. Here is a picture, courtesy of Holly Howard, of myself & local fiddler, Lisa Bond, at the Artist Showcase at the American River Resort.
The following night, after my second performance at the American River Music Festival, around 7pm , I was under the Apple Trees in my yard, on the phone with Mooka (Producer) and listening to the Final Mixes of the Record, when I noticed the sky turn an eerie orange. That was 9/13. I was already tense, bracing for the 1 year Anniversary of our sweet Judge's passing, but knew in my gut....... A Fire had broken out. What started as a 20 acre fire, exploded, and now 8 days later the fire is only 10% contained and over 82,000 acres with over 5,000 firefighters on it. This will probably go down as one of the largest fires in California History. At one point it was only 2 miles from our house.
September 15th, 2014 as you know, was the original target release date for this Record. It was the date of Judge's passing. That date was spent in terror trying to find any kind of official information on how close the fire was, and our car was already packed for any kind of Evacuation for our neighborhood. Lyba & I did take a few moments to meditate upon her Dad, His Spirit, and the rich legacy & memories of true love he left us with.
The last 8 days has felt like 80 for those of us in the path of the King's Fire. All Officials have stated they have NEVER in their careers seen anything like this, and it's unpredictability has been terrorizing. My daughter and I continue to be at the ready to evacuate if need be, but from tonight's information we hear our corner of Camino is holding strong and they are doing offensive dozing, creating larger fire breaks, and backfiring operations tonight to further protect us. We will be at the ready until further containment is affirmed.
All the while, I am trying to stay focused on the record for both Vinyl & CD replication, as we are almost at that step. Busy approving final photos and getting ready for data input for song order musician credit....and special thanks for YOU... The Kickstarter Backers that made this entire experience possible.
I also had to cancel a show , as I was holding down my fort , at the ready, like Scarlet O'hara in the event Sherman's army (The King Fire) advanced.
Without Ya'll, I would not be as healed nor as ready to carry on without Judge as I am. I can see my career advancing in front of me, and feel positive for the future as I walk down this road widowed, but no where near broken. Deep Gratitude for your gift!!
I'm expecting the CD's to be released by mid November. Vinyl hopefully by Christmas. I don't want to rush anything and compromise the incredible heart & work we've all put into this. Thank you for your patience & understanding.
In closing, I would like to share this video with you all. Friend and local photographer, Holly Howard, put together a video & photo montage of the King Fire, and asked if she could use my song, "Blue", to accompany. It was from the 2008 release of the Lansdale Station CD, and also features Judge singing with me. The cut was mixed & mastered at Prairie Sun Studios as well, and the frenzied fervor we are all feeling on the mountain is aptly depicted.

Pray for Rain. Pray for the Firefighters. Pray for the people who've lost their homes, and for the wildlife that is running scared. We hope life we resume some sort of normalcy for our beautiful mountain soon. El Dorado and the Sierra Nevadas are my Muse.
Peace Love & Gratitude
