A prototype is a preliminary model of something. Projects that offer physical products need to show backers documentation of a working prototype. This gallery features photos, videos, and other visual documentation that will give backers a sense of what’s been accomplished so far and what’s left to do. Though the development process can vary for each project, these are the stages we typically see:
Proof of Concept
Explorations that test ideas and functionality.
Demonstrates the functionality of the final product, but looks different.
Looks like the final product, but is not functional.
Appearance and function match the final product, but is made with different manufacturing methods.
Appearance, function, and manufacturing methods match the final product.
The production is on the right track and we started material collection and production 3 weeks ago. For more information, please see our updates.
ionboard is composed of students who take making commuting fun very seriously. Seeing an opportunity to make life easier for other students like themselves, we have been working tirelessly on creating ionboard, while still making time to study. We are passionate about our product and want more than anything to see ionboard make people happy.
We are grateful to have had fantastic support from advisors and consultants (and our loving parents). Our manufactures, suppliers and engineering team are very experienced in their fields, and we have created a rigorous quality control system our manufacturer uses to ensure premium results.
Since our first prototype, we’ve changed almost all of the parts of our board. We’ve redesigned our deck to be more durable, thickened our wheels to ride over rocks and bumps, and upgraded the battery from 24 volts to 36 volts, offering more power to glide up hills effortlessly. Our engineering team has perfected the acceleration and braking system to provide an incredibly smooth riding experience. We have sold boards to local skateboard shops and UCSD students and gained an astounding amount of feedback from people using our prototype. Our manufacturer is ready to begin manufacturing as soon as we launch so that we can complete the holiday sales, and we even have a backup manufacturer selected to ensure we fulfill our promise to deliver a quality product to you.
Built by riders, for riders, we have put these boards through everything you might ever experience while riding; we ride these boards every day and want you to feel the same feelings of exhilaration and wonder that we do. Over the past year, we have learned a lot, and we hope that you, the rider, can enjoy in our hard work, and change the way we commute.
