Bikes are better. They burn calories instead of carbon, making you lean and green. So why is the weekly shop always done by car? It’s simple: capacity. Bikes can’t offer more competition than heavy and cumbersome trailers… until now.
T-RAK is a Versatile, High Capacity Bike Cargo System. The patented T-RAK Bike Cargo System incorporates a rear rack with retractable side skirting and a host of accessories to fit your cargo carrying needs. Any load can be easily accommodated, from a few loose bits of sports kit to the week’s groceries in the basket, tote bags, or even the cooler!
The T-RAK platform is a simple attachment that allows you to mix and match custom accessories to meet your cargo needs. Deploy the retractable side skirting to keep grocery bags clear of the rear, use the bungee net to tie down loose items, or simply clip on the Utility Box and throw everything in!
The T-RAK Bike Cargo System gives you the flexibility to carry masses of cargo without deterioration in control or comfort. You’ll be amazed at how much you can fit on your bike and wonder why you ever needed the car. Creator John Vitanza managed 48 pounds of groceries using the four Tote Bags, Utility Box, Cooler and Bungee Net, cycling the 8 mile round trip with ease and even keeping his cream chilled!
The core of the T-RAK system is the strong, lightweight platform. Aluminium reinforcement ensures stability and the platform houses the T-Post and retractable side skirting as well as offering simple attachment for the Utility Box or Bungee Net.
The patented Pivoting T-Post moves up from its neutral position flush to the platform to provide an anchor for hanging bags, or neatly folds away when not in use. Of course, the T-Post on its own won’t stop bags from getting caught in the bike’s rear wheel…
The retractable side skirting folds neatly on top of the platform when not in use, and can be let down simply to protect grocery bags from the rear wheel, and vice versa! They keep your shopping stable and will even protect it from wheel splash in wet conditions.
You’ll never need to use plastic shopping bags again thanks to the four eco-friendly canvas tote bags included with every T-RAK system. Designed to hang from the T-Post and fit comfortably over the side of the platform, these light and durable bags offer ample storage for your shopping. Future bolder designs are planned too!
The Removable Utility Box clips neatly onto the T-RAK platform above the side skirting slats to offer another dimension to your cargo setup. You can even use it alongside the tote bags – perfect for single, heavy items that would weigh down a bag. It’s also great for chilled items thanks to the conveniently sized cooler.
The T-RAK cooler is insulated to keep groceries chilled and fresh, and fits snugly into the Utility Box, so you needn’t worry about your eggs being scrambled by time you get home!
While you’re flying along the roads and paths, the specially designed Bungee Net fits neatly over the top of your load to hold any loose items in place and keep them safe. We love it for securing towels for a beach trip or those few extra bits from the shop that didn’t quite fit in the bag or basket – it’ll fit over the Utility Box as well.
To those looking to take cargo-carrying even further, we introduce the T-RAK Shoulder/Saddle Bag. This exclusively-designed bag brings even further versatility. You can sling it over your shoulder or attach it to the T-RAK platform via the T-Post, where it will sit snugly underneath the canvas totes for even more space! We think the T-RAK system can handle more than enough without this bag, so it will be sold separately and we can’t wait to be proved wrong – with it, just how much can you carry?
The idea for the T-RAK system came from the passion of creator John Vitanza’s father. Gaetano Vitanza was a man who got things done, always solving and fixing problems for himself as well as his wife and children. Later in life, deteriorating health left him unable to drive and he found his independence suffered – even the weekly shop was now beyond him.
Of course, he didn’t settle for that, instead designing a system to carry more with his bike, in what was an early prototype of the T-RAK Bike Cargo System. His independence and happiness were restored, and father and son between them set out to develop the idea to see how far they could spread the invention’s positive impact.
Sadly, Gaetano has passed away, and never saw the T-RAK in all its glory – a true reflection of his passion for independence and innovation. John has taken the original design forwards to arrive at the system you see today. He is inspired by the opportunity that exists to make cycling an even more viable alternative to automotive transport, and wants to bring to reality a system that can help people on a personal and global level.
The T-RAK prototype has been made and tested, racking up the miles as well as delivering a whopping 48 pounds of shopping in its maiden voyage! The next step is large-scale production, so that we can deliver independence from cars and fossil fuels to thousands more people like my father, who won’t be constrained by the ‘need’ to drive. With your help, we hope to get the injection molding process up and running by June 1st and deliver the T-RAK solution worldwide.
Risks and challenges
Carrying cargo with a bike is nothing new and is sure to go on for the foreseeable future as long as we as humans have our feet planted on the ground and continue to ride bicycles.
But carrying cargo, like groceries, with the T-RAK Bike Rack is a new and innovative way to do it, as evidenced by the fact that a patent has been issued for this idea in the United States Patent #8,857,686 B1 and patent-pending in other countries worldwide.
The T-RAK Bike Rack-Cargo System has proven to be a safe, easy and efficient way to fulfill cargo-carrying tasks, as I personally witnessed this watching my father successfully go back-and-forth to the grocery store with the very first prototype he created.
When I set out to bring the T-RAK to market to improve the lives of other people, it came very easy to me to do this, having more than 25 years in the manufacturing and promotional products business.
Fast forward to today, we are ready and poised to take the next step as we have been diligent in our efforts to cover all the details and partner with the correct manufacturer who possesses a long-standing record of delivering what they promised, on time and within budget.
As with all ventures, there could be future hurdles to cross, but we are confident we can move through them and keep on the path to the goals we have set; to deliver the T-RAK Bike Rack to the first adopters on Kickstarter that put their trust in us to be one of the first ones to use the product, improve their lives and the world we live in.
We know there are enough people out there that share in our enthusiasm for this great new product, and given the chance to launch our Kickstarter campaign and reach our funding goals, WE WILL deliver what we have promised.
Barring a giant asteroid hitting the Earth or a massive solar flare knocking out the electrical grid, WE WILL DELIVER!
For those of you who want a list of the RISKS and REWARDS, here is what our team believes - we hope you agree!
- Spike in costs should global market become unstable
- Not being able to keep up with demand for our product once it launches.
- Improve the carbon footprint
- Exercise for better health (Burn Calories - Not Carbon!)
- Leave more money in your wallet, not in your gas tank.
