The Denver Film Society (DFS) needs your help raising funds to acquire 4 new digital projectors – equipment that will allow us to program and offer a full array of screenings at the organization’s diverse venues including: Film on the Rocks, the Sie FilmCenter, and the Starz Denver Film Festival red-carpet premieres at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House.
THE BIG LEBOWSKI @ RED ROCKS ONLY HAPPENS WITH YOUR HELP
That’s right…THE BIG LEBOWSKI is The Big Event.
For a $25 donation – you can support the Denver Film Society digital campaign and also receive a ticket to an Exclusive Backer's-only DCP screening of THE BIG LEBOWSKI at Red Rocks on July 31. This event will not take place unless we work together to reach our $150,000 campaign goal. Please support the Denver Film Society digital projection campaign and make a donation today.
In addition, DFS and its partner organizations have created many other unique rewards across all of our programs as thank you gifts for your investment in this campaign.
By the end of 2013, the film industry will only distribute new films in a digital format (DCP). Even classic Film on the Rocks titles like THE BIG LEBOWSKI, TOP GUN and THE GOONIES have been converted to digital. The potential impact to the Denver Film Society and film-lovers throughout the region is significant. Without DCP projectors we will not be able to show these older films or any new films produced by Hollywood!
As the leading not-for-profit film organization in the state of Colorado for more than 35 years, our goal is to continue to bring the great films, festivals and exciting events that you have come to expect.
To do that, we must respond to the new Hollywood and film industry standard and purchase DCP projectors immediately.
In other words, we have to be proactive. We either go digital or we lose the ability to deliver the most complete film offerings.
With your help, that won’t happen.
What is the cost of 4 new DCP Projectors?
We need you to help us raise $150,000 though this Kickstarter campaign to cover the cost of 2 projectors. Luckily we’ve had some generous donors contribute $70,000 towards the cost of the other two.
So by June 28 we need you to help us raise $150,000 – and more would be even better!
Last year alone, DFS spent $35,000 to rent equipment allowing us to screen films only available on digital at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House and the L2 Arts and Culture Center for the Starz Denver Film Festival. We can’t afford to be spending that kind of money each year – and if we did that only covers 2 projectors when we need 4.
So here’s the deal: we have to buy digital projection for all three theaters at the Sie FilmCenter, and a projector we will use for Film on the Rocks, at the Ellie Caulkins Opera House and other future venues.
The Options Are Clear – GO DIGITAL OR GO DARK
While the digital conversion will shutter hundreds of small theaters across the country, you have the ability to drive this campaign, helping ensure that we can continue to give our members and Denver-area film lovers what they want - The Best Film Experience in Colorado.
IT’S ALL OR NOTHING AS WE WORK TO ACHIEVE OUR $150,000 GOAL
If the goal of $150,000 is not met by June 28 – we get nothing. NADA. ZERO. ZILCH. We don't get a single dime and we don't convert.
Support the Denver Film Society
The Denver Film Society is a 501c3 non-profit arts organization dedicated to the exhibition of films through its diverse programs. With less than 50% of operating revenue achieved through ticket sales, DFS works to maintain its year-round programming and educational offerings through the generosity of private donors, government organizations, corporations, and foundations. This support allows the Denver Film Society to sustain the strength of its programs and resources and helps us reach new audiences. Visit our website denverfilm.org
Risks and challenges
The challenge lies in the timing of the installation of the projectors, however we are working with Red Rocks to find a time between music concerts to install that projection system, and we have found out we will only need to shut down one screen at a time, and only for one day at the Sie FilmCenter.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
