Big festival news, awards, and nominations

Hi everyone, lots of good news!

Our eighth festival is a big one. ‘From the Sky’ will return to California in October for its fourth festival in the state, as an official selection of the 17th annual Hollywood Film Festival. The film will screen Thursday, October 16th at 11:15AM, following the opening keynote address at the famous ArcLight Cinemas Hollywood on Sunset Boulevard (formerly known as the Cinerama Dome). ‘From the Sky’ will be presented via pristine DCP for a themed shorts program titled ‘On the Battlefield.’ I hope to join for the Q&A set to follow, and the cast will be in attendance as well. Speaking of California, 'From the Sky' won the Activist Award at the 2014 Awareness Festival on September 21st in Santa Monica! Awareness Festival was a great experience and the film was well received by fellow filmmakers and audience members.

We've also just learned that the film won the 'Award of Excellence: Special Mention' from the Accolade Global Film Competition! Named one of MovieMaker Magazine's top 25 festivals worth the entry fee, 'From the Sky' was selected out of thousands of submissions for this second place designation, and is one of just two films from the U.S. to make the top and second place prize slots. See it here: http://accoladecompetition.org/

Finally, 'From the Sky' has picked up four nominations from The Short Film Awards! They are:

BEST ACTOR IN A SHORT FILM - Maz Siam

BEST SUPPORTING ACTOR IN A SHORT FILM - Mohamad Tamimi

BEST DIRECTOR OF A NARRATIVE, DRAMATIC OR COMEDIC SHORT FILM

BEST WRITING IN A NARRATIVE, DRAMATIC OR COMEDIC SHORT FILM

I am seriously excited to see this remarkable cast getting recognized, both through these nominations and also the Casting Society of America/CSA Artios Award nomination. I'll keep you updated on the awards ceremonies and the winners once they are announced. Congrats to Maz and Mohamad!

Arizona to host 'From the Sky' for festival #7

'From the Sky’ has been chosen as an official selection at the 11th annual Flagstaff Mountain Film Festival!

The festival focuses on bringing “socially conscious, environmentally aware, and outdoor adventure” films to this picturesque region in Arizona. ‘From the Sky’ will screen on Saturday, October 11th at 7:30PM. Click below for more details:

Nomination for annual casting award, and new interview

The Casting Society of America has nominated Stephen Salamunovich for his work with writer/director Ian Ebright and producer Jess Grant in casting ‘From the Sky.’ Salamunovich is a Seattle-based casting director with credits including ‘The Details’ (Tobey Maguire, Elizabeth Banks, Laura Linney) and ’21 & Over.’ The nomination places ‘From the Sky’ as one of five short films in the race for the 2014 Excellence in Casting award. The winner will be announced before the end of the year at an awards ceremony in Los Angeles.

Elsewhere, New York-based filmmaker Stephanie Gardner featured 'From The Sky' in her column at PCP Media after seeing the film at Rhode Island International Film Festival. She's given 'From the Sky' a really nice write-up and interviewed Ian about the creative process and hopes for the film: http://www.pcpmedia.us/fromthesky/
