Crossing geographic boundaries over three continents, KINEMATIK is collaborating with Austria based choreographer Katrin Blantar and India based video and multi-media artists Shraddha Uday Borawake, to create Conversation Pieces, a humorous and quirky multi-disciplinary dance performance that incorporates movement, video and live text. Inspired by segments of sentences overheard on the street of NYC, Vienna and Pune, Conversation Pieces is an attempt to explore, interpret and contextualize fragments of local conversations within a global context, as words are translated by video, bodies and movement on stage.
Conversation Pieces developed in the fall of 2012 and premiered at the Dixon Place as part of the Crossing Boundaries Dance Series in December 2012. As an all female production with an all female cast, featuring Marie Paldrup, Eriko Tsubosaka, Nubian Nene and Svea Schneider we are now REALLY thrilled and proud to take Conversation Pieces to the West Coast!! We got accepted into the Hollywood Fringe Festival and since this is a self-funded project we are asking you for your support to help us get to Los Angeles and make Conversation Pieces a successful production over there. Costs raised on Kickstarter will go towards travel expenses, accommodation and production costs.
We are super grateful and appreciate any smallest donation!!

Risks and challenges
Working on a piece that crosses continental boundaries is challenging not only because of the time difference, but because most of the interaction between the creative team is mediated by technology. Emails, Skype and phone calls are our primary means to communicate. This becomes challenging at times, but it is also the essence of what we are trying to explore in Conversation Pieces.
One specific challenge for taking Conversation Pieces to the West Coast is the live performance aspect of it. Most of the piece revolves around a kitchen table. We are dancing on it, around it, under it and on top of it. We will be rehearsing the piece in NYC but since we are traveling by plane we will not be able to bring a table with us. A challenge will be to find a suitable table within less than a day, rehearse on it and get comfortable with it so we can be prepared for a successful performance.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
