Who We Are

Epidemia Designs offers athletic apparel and accessories featuring patterns created from biological images.  Through the digital manipulation of micrographs, CT scans, even x-rays, we create designs that both look cool and tell the story of the amazing strength and beauty of the human body.

Through our products and their biological roots, we hope to help make science more accessible to young people, and especially young girls.  We hope to inspire young people to develop interests in the sciences and pursue careers that will ultimately lead to the creation of the next great advances in science, medicine, and technology.

Furthermore, we believe that science has the potential to change the world and we want to be part of that change.  More than 1.5 million children die every year from diseases that are preventable by vaccines that already exist.  In many cases, those vaccines cost less than $1 per child.  We hope to contribute to the fight for a healthier future by using 15% of our profits to fund research and projects aimed at reducing the incidence of preventable disease and expanding access to high quality medical care all over the world.

What Your Donation Will Fund

With our Kickstarter goal of $15,000 we will be launching our inaugural line of activewear leggings.  The line is entitled "She's Got It" and will include products featuring images of brain, nerve, heart, and epithelial (gut) cells. This line is designed to embrace our mission of empowering women, celebrating the beauty of the human body, as well as providing our customers with a super-comfortable, ultra-durable pair of workout (or everyday, if you're like us) pants.

We will be working with designers to create the perfect fit for the leggings, ensuring that they have all the qualities you look for in activewear.  We will take the time to make sure our seams and pockets are in the right places, that we strike just the right balance between high and low rise, and that the fabrics we use are moisture-wicking, soft, and move with you.

We will be working to create the most eye-catching, interesting, and attractive patterns from our biological images.  We hand select images that have the most compelling colors and textures and that will translate best into prints for the leggings. This movement from science into art is the core of our company and the medium through which we hope to communicate the biological beauty of the human body.

If we surpass our goal of $15,000, we will expand the "She's Got It" line to include sports bras and tank tops.

Here are some mock-ups of the "She's Got It" line of activewear leggings:

Risks and challenges

Since we are just starting out we are not able to purchase and warehouse large inventories, our greatest challenge will be making certain that the manufacturers we work with consistently ship to us on a timely basis. We will work with proven manufacturers to reduce the risk that our customers will face any delays in receiving our products.
