Pendomus is book 1 in a 3-part series I've been writing, called the Pendomus Chronicles.
The series is YA sci-fi, dystopian with paranormal romance elements. It takes place on another planet, Pendomus, and follows the tale of a seventeen-year-old girl, Runa, who leaves the humanity-run complex known as the Helix, only to be brutally attacked when she does so. Runa ends up being saved by a man with blue-hair and brought to a hidden location on the planet. As she heals from her attack, evidence begins to emerge that Runa's attack was not merely an accident. She begins hearing voices in her mind, which are not associated to the Helix's eLink technology (a means of wirelessly transferring thoughts and communication via minds) and they warn about insidious plans to murder her. Her only chance is to find a way inside a mysterious doorway on the side of an ancient tree for answers. The trouble is, in order to do so, she must return to the place she left-- the Helix. Can she find out what's happening without risking the lives of her new friends? Or worse, the man she's beginning to fall for?
I've been working on Pendomus since October of 2010. After going through the critiques, the process of querying, I've decided to self-publish Pendomus. Somewhere in the past 3 years, it occurred to me that I have everything it takes to make this series successful on my own. I am a graphic designer by trade, I've worked in publishing, printing and even marketing. All I needed was a little push.
Right now, I have Pendomus scheduled on my own to be released October 10th, 2013. As it stands, digital copies will be available exclusively through Amazon's KDP program for the first 90 days - then released to other formats.
What I'd like to do, is have the ability to have Pendomus professionally edited one last time before it's released on October 10th, 2013.

Risks and challenges
Once Pendomus is funded, I'll be able to send Pendomus for one last look to my editor. She's already ripped the first MS to shreds and helped me see the parts that were broken.
Right now, I am in the final process of reworking the book to correct these mistakes. I'm about half-way through tearing it apart and rewriting/putting it back together. When all edits have been made, the next step is to send the digital files for testing. All formatting must be done right to look professional - so this may take some tinkering. Luckily, with my background in graphic design and working for a SaaS company, I have the ability to work out any kinks. Additionally, I have many author friends who have been through the process to turn to.
