In Jeremiah 31:21 it says "Set up road markers for yourself; establish signposts!" Our journey over the past few years has been a series of establishing these signposts. Let us share part of our story here.
In early 2013, we started dreaming that someday we would start a business roasting coffee. The possibility, however, felt far away as we rented a small townhome that would in not accommodate a business venture. Through a series of blessings and hard decisions we were able to purchase a home that would allow us to pursue the business "when we decided to." This was our first signpost.
In early 2014, it became clear that if we wanted to achieve our dream we would need to begin somewhere. It was intimidating and required a great deal of work, but in November 2014 we opened our online doors. Our second signpost was taking the steps to start the business. Our third signpost was taking the first order.
In December 2014, we had a major setback when a part broke on our roaster. The part had to be custom made, which wasn't inexpensive, and the lead time was 4 weeks. We were discouraged and felt that we would have to start all over again. We learned in the process that "we can make our plans, but the Lord determines our steps" (Proverbs 16:9). This realization was our fourth signpost.
In early 2015, Alex had a significant career change. With this, we have been blessed financially with the ability to invest in a larger roaster for the business. This is necessary for us to fulfill the goals of the business. We have also been able to pay off the business debt and are operating debt free. This is was our fifth signpost.
So… that leads us to today…
Several months ago Alex had a dream that the name of our business had changed to SignPost Coffee. Since then, we have experienced God refining our dreams into a purpose. For the past several months we have been praying and working to put that purpose into words and feel that we are ready to share it with the world. We feel called to mark the road and create signposts so that others can follow. This is more than a name change, this is a life change.
Over the next few weeks we will rebranding our website with the new vision and purpose, but we need your help! We are striving to stay out of debt so that we can pour more into our MISSION. We would like to order a pallet of green coffee directly from an importer. By ordering directly, there is more transparency and connection with the farmers and we have more ability to choose coffees that align with our MISSION.
By backing us, not only do you get great coffee, you also play a part in supporting Coffee with a Mission and establishing another signpost.
Risks and challenges
Our biggest challenge is to keep the business out of debt, while having to buy supplies in a large enough quantity to keep our costs low to allow us to channel more money into our mission.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
