Meet the Arduino Compatible RFID Reader Module. It can hold card data for up to five cards, takes seconds to program, and holds card data in EEPROM memory, which means that the cards are saved even after power off. It can be connected to via the male USB connector, or via the four connector pads on the back of the circuit board. If you pledge towards this campaign, you'll receive the Arduino code, so that you can modify it as you see fit!
How It Works?:
It is very simple. Prior to power up, take a jumper, and short pins 11 and 10. From there, power up, and program in five different cards by simply placing your RFID cards over top of the antenna in succession. After each card is programmed, the blue LED will light up for one second, then turn off. Once the final card is programmed, the blue LED will light up and stay on. At this point, all you need to do is power off, remove the jumper shorting pins 10 and 11, and place it now on pins 10 and 9. This will place the program in scanning mode on power up. When an incorrect card is detected, a pulse is sent along the "Negative output line". When a correct card is received, a card specific pulse is sent along the "Positive output line". The Optional Control Board: The controller board is an extra board that comes with two basic programs; both of which act to deactivate an electromagnetic lock. Best of all, there's audio! It was designed to work with many electronic devices, including my RFID readers. If you're not looking to connect the RFID reader to your Arduino UNO, and have no intention or interest in programming, then this board is the perfect addition! Here is a quick video of both programs in action!:
The Wall Adaptor: The included 120-240VAC 50/60Hz to 12v 2A AC-DC wall adaptor acts to power the control board, the RFID reader, and the optional mag lock. It connects directly to the control board power jack.
The Stereo Cable & Mountable Reset Button: The red reset button plugs into the control board directly, and acts to re-activate the magnetic lock once initially deactivated by the RFID cards. It has a mounting nut, and is easily removed from the control board for mounting. The stereo cable connects between the audio output jack, and the stereo input line of any given audio amplifier. Computer speakers, dollar store battery powered amplifiers, or even Bose players are among compatible options!
The Electromagnetic Lock Set: The electromagnetic lock set comes with some reward tiers, and connects directly to the control board. Use the RFID cards to control it! Great for science projects, escape rooms, and man caves!
RFID Cards: This set is compatible with 125kHz RFID cards. All reward tiers that include the RFID reader module will include either 5x RFID cards, or five RFID tags. The RFID cards are larger, and are about the size of a credit card. The smaller tags have an adhesive strip, so that they can be essentially glued to objects if you'd like! You'll get the choice between the two types at the end of the campaign!
If you pledge towards this campaign, you'll be given access to the code for the RFID reader module. I'll also be creating some sample code for Arduino UNO, which will show you how to read cards, differentiate them, and print which cards has been detected directly to the serial monitor. At the end of this campaign, I'll be creating a project page on my website for all pledges to view. This project page will house all of the provided code, and video demonstrations.
Current Project Status:
The hardware has been fully tested, and the software is working perfectly. I might spend some time updating the current software, but aside from that, this set is production ready. A complete video manual will be created for all pledges. It will be detailed, and will cover all topics that relate to all reward tiers.
Rewards & Reward Shipments:
All rewards should be shipped two weeks after this campaign ends, so within a week and a half or so after Christmas. If you don't see a reward tier that suits your needs, please feel free to drop me a line! I might very well be able to create a reward tier that suits your needs!
For those of you who have pledged to past campaigns of mine, you'll know that I follow a very specific production schedule formula. The printed circuit boards for both the RFID reader, and the control board are finalised, and production ready. The software is also complete. All that needs to be done is to organise the assembly of both boards, order all of the required components and accessories. Rewards are due to be shipped two weeks after this campaign ends. Two weeks after this campaign begins, I should have a good forecast of what quantities of components and accessories are required to fill reward shipments. Three weeks into this campaign, all parts should be ordered. A project update will reflect this progress. By the fourth week of this campaign, the video manual should be complete,and available to all pledges to view. This campaign ends after four weeks. The two weeks following will see the assemblies, components, and assemblies trickle in. During this time, I will be creating a project page on my website that includes all project related video links, and fully commented Arduino code samples. I will also be quality testing, and getting reward shipments ready. All rewards should be out the door two weeks after this campaign ends.
Kickstarter, and the Kickstarter community have been good to me. Of the previous 24 campaigns that I've launched, only one was unsuccessful. Thanks to this platform, I've been able to launch so many of my ideas. without the financial backing of my supports, most of these ideas would have just faded away into nothingness. I'm hoping that I can continue working with all of you for years to come. Thank you for your support. The money from this campaign will go to purchasing fully assembled RFID readers, which will be advanced over time through programming. Risks and challenges
As with all of my campaigns, there is little to no risk attached to it. The only risk would be relating to a late reward shipment, but this would only happen if this campaign were excessively popular. I expect this to be a relatively small campaign. Even if this campaign ended up being extremely popular, it would only effect some reward shipments. Any delay would be a short one. This has not been an issue before.
