About this project
Hangman Radio is an entirely from scratch classic radio production. We aim to create a fantastic theater of the mind production in every oddly dark show we create. The topics of the show are loosely based on actual historic characters and events which have a seedy underbelly shown in each program.
All programs begin as a live performance at Shakers in Milwaukee. They are then canned and podcast. You can find our existing shows here: www.hangmanradio.com.
Each show is a sizable project beginning with the writing of source material, to scripting it to fit radio, to scoring original musical charts. It is a wonderfully challenging creative project for all involved.
Written and directed by a female team, Hangman Radio's shows will make you laugh and gasp, and occasionally cry. Topped with some of the midwest's finest voice actors, a phenomenal house band, and quick-witted Foley artists, not a single show is to be missed.
Strap on some headphones, and immerse yourself in a world of stories that will capture your heart and mind.
Risks and challenges
Hangman Radio is heading into its second season. Season 1 was almost entirely self-funded, with the exception of a few sponsors.
With 5 to 7 voice actors, and a 5 to 6 piece band, one of the most inherent challenges is casting and scheduling. We have shown that in the first season, that we have been able to overcome this obstacle while still maintaining a timely schedule.
One final take:
We perform each show at Shakers in Milwaukee where we record the show in front of a live audience. With that in mind, not every performance is squeaky clean and free of flubs. Because of the quality of our professional actors, those missteps are few and far between. It's a nice reminder that we are dealing with human voice actors and a live band. Not canned music and robot actors.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
