About this project

Nathan Hunt is an interactive fiction game that is based on real Google Streetview landscape photos. Imagine reading a thriller accompanied with real photos offered by Google Streetview that lead you through the game.

It's a 100% free to play browser game that due to the "live" Google Streetview images needs an internet connection.
The first chapter of the interactive fiction can be played (starting 15th August 2015) at http://www.mynameishunt.com

NEXT CHAPTER THANKS TO CROWDFUNDING

Ever chapter will be created through crowdfunding, what means that once a chapter is published, the next crowdfunding session starts to finance the next chapter.

Working on the right development solution and the first chapter for this game took me several months. In the meantime my girlfriend left me, my mum has deleted me from her will and my dog constantly nibbles on my ankle. Nothing i worry about as long as i can continue with the second chapter of "Nathan Hunt - 355 for ships to Marseille".
That's where you come into play!
Go and play the first chapter and if you like it, become a backer of this project to support your love for text adventures, interactive fiction and Google Streetview.

The amount of the money will guarantee

  • the realization of the next chapter "Bitten by the blue dog"
  • a raw correction by a lecturer
  • support of a translation agency
  • if necessary, to pay the Google Maps & Streetview fees
  • that i can concentrate on the game development that includes adding images and sound to the game.

THE HISTORY OF THIS IDEA

Back in the mid 90s i had the idea to create a "real life point-and-click adventure game" where you had to solve an adventure based on photos i made through my daily life. The tools available to create such a game existed (Macromind director, Nebook) but it was way too complicated and the internet way too expensive for distribution. So i paused the idea.

In autumn 2014 i learned about the Quest tool, written by Alex Warren, (http://textadventures.co.uk)that allows anyone easily to create adventure or interactive fiction games. I revived the idea i had back in the 90s and started to develop the "Nathan Hunt" project.
The first solutions were based on an adventure game, where you have to type your orders like "Go down the street", "Take the wallet" or "Talk to the man".
But as my idea is to catch the "book readers that never played an adventure game before" target group, i restarted the whole development  to make it way easier to get into the game.

The "Nathan Hunt" series now is based on a tool called Squiffy that is also developed by Alex Warren, and is presented as "interactive fiction".

Risks and challenges

My challenge is to create every chapter within this game so interesting, that you do not only spend hours by reading the text, but also take your time to look around every interactive Google Streetview image that appears within the game. It's a great opportunity to once again realize in what fragil world we live with so many beautiful places - and people!

I took the risk to work on the actual chapter that is free to play over months and i am absolutely happy with the result.

So the only risk is that instead of realizing every chapter within a month or two, it might take longer to develop the next chapter.
