Update from Gen Con August 21
I just got back from Gen Con and ran across one of our backers, Luke Heller. I showed him some samples I brought with me. Luke said he loved the coins. It was nice meeting Luke. He is a long time Gen Con attendee, Kickstarter backer, and a cool guy.
Unfortunately, I didn't have a booth so I really couldn't pass out samples. That would understandably upset Gen Con since I didn't have a booth and they would have kicked me out. However, I was able to talk to a large distributor and they were very interested in the coins. Once I have the retail packaging completed, I got a verbal commitment from the owner that they will carry them.
I also had the coins out when I was eating lunch near the food trucks. My son and I were messing with them and someone asked to share our table. First thing he said was, "Where did you get those. Those are fantastic."
It was really nice to get the positive feedback.
What are Metallic Legends?
Metallic Legends are collectible fantasy coins. They are the highest quality coins made and each one is a work of art.
Coins depict characters from genres such as Science Fiction, Fantasy, or Horror.
Metallic Legends are an affordable collectible that can be used as display pieces, game markers, or even gaming pieces.
The character artwork is molded into the coin so it has amazing 3D dimensional depth.
- Coins are made from a zinc alloy metal
- 2 inches (50.8 mm) in diameter
- About 4.5 mm thick
- Weighs almost 2 ounces
- Baked enamel paint is used in the recessed areas
Different colors of metal plating and enamel are used to fit the look of the character. For example, we used an antique silver plating and black enamel for the ninja. However, for a red dragon we might use gold plating and red enamel.
Each character also has a unique design on the back that fits the theme of that character.
What is the long term plan?
Our plan is to continually add characters from the genres of Science Fiction, Fantasy, and Horror.
One thing you may have noticed is that we did not "number" each coin. That was intentional. Our personal opinion is that this takes away from the character artwork and actually hurts the collectible factor. For example, if a person likes to collect specific types of characters, would they want coins with varying numbers such as 5, 15, 58? It gives the impression of an incomplete set.
When we go to retail, coins will be sold in clear packages so you know what you are buying. "Blind buy" packaging is not for us.
What do you get for your pledge?
You get the first six coins that we are releasing. These coins are:
- Ninja Warrior
- Undead Outlaw (see below artwork for the front of coin)
- Dwarf (artwork in progress)
- Futuristic Sci Fi soldier (artwork in progress)
The coins come in clear plastic sleeves. Note that the plastic sleeves are not display quality. The sleeves are used during shipping to protect the coins from rubbing against each other. The coins are made of a zinc alloy and are essentially indestructible. However, like any metal object rubbing against another piece of metal, it is possible to get wear marks and even small dings if you drop the coin from a distance.
In addition, we are considering remaking the mold for the Minotaur so we can enlarge the image between 10-15 percent. We want a little more detail in his face.
Can we deliver this project on time?
We have had three successful Kickstarter projects. The first was shipped ON TIME and the second and third were shipped EARLY. We had overwhelming positive reviews for our first three projects. This project will be even better.
This is a great gift for the holidays and WILL be delivered in November!
If we receive $75,000 in pledges, each backer will get one additional coin at NO cost for each set they have purchased. The additional coin will be a new design and we will solicit input from our backers.
We want this project to be attractive for US and international backers. The issue for international backers is not only high shipping costs but the potential of import duties and handling fees by local custom agents. We can't control those fees and they are the backer's responsibility. However, in order to help balance this out, we are subsidizing the majority of the shipping cost for international backers. The amount you pay, $6 for Canada and $8 international, is about 40% of our actual shipping costs. We feel by doing this it will help if you are charged an import duty and handling fee.
If you order multiple sets each one will be shipped separately. This is due to the logistics and costs of the packaging and shipping. International backers may be charged import duties and handling fees for each shipment. Unfortunately, we can't combine multiple sets in one shipment.
