When you’re a couple of
ladies in the year 1885 with a penchant for science, tinkering, a curiosity for
things unknown, and an insatiable appetite for adventure, the city of Detroit
cannot contain you – even with all its clacking-edge technology and love for
inventors. But it does keep pulling you back to its heart with its seemingly
unending series of mysteries and curiosities.
Come join in the adventures
of Margaret Alvery Clayton and Penelope Anne Davenport, as their zeal for
discovery and adventure propels them into the realm between science and that
which lies beyond. Martius Catalyst is an online serialized-web fiction set in Detroit in 1885. The adventures of curiosity shop owner,
Margaret Alvery Clayton, and prominent socialite, Penelope Anne Davenport, will
pull you into secret societies, esoteric and occult philosophies, and societal
demands of the Gilded age. Find out what significance the local legend of Le
Nain Rouge has as Maggie and Penny try to uncover the meaning and purpose behind
the artifact acquired during the auction of the estate of a mysterious Dr.
Greeves. The Maritus Catalyst somehow holds the key to making the unknown a
truth that few can resist.
WHAT WE'VE ACCOMPLISHED SO
Creating art is never a
smooth process. Something with a Steampunk bent for sure is not smooth. It’s
rugged, it chugs, it smokes and sometimes it fizzles. But then the tinkers come
along (that’s where we come in) and polish it up, find new parts and
tinker and tinker until it sails away across the sky all shiny and new and
Maggie and Penny’s
adventures are just getting going; but, Samantha, Jackie and I have been at this for
more than a year, developing, outlining, editing, learning to be tech monkeys
and gnashing our teeth. This story is near and dear to our hearts. So, we’ve
endured, cussed, sprouted a few gray hairs, and fought through learning to
collaborate with one another to bring Martius Catalyst to the world.
We have fun and lots of
danger ahead for our steampunk tinkering ladies; but, we want this also to be
an interactive adventure, so KICKSTARTER seemed to be a perfect fit
for what we wanted to accomplish.
FUNDING TO TAKE IT FURTHER
Your support goes towards
the purchase of everything necessary for us to complete this project. Our
$3,000 goal is to cover production and publications costs (including procuring
some necessary software upgrades ala Indesign/Photoshop), marketing, and webhosting.
Also included is the cost of packing materials and postage, so that we may
cover the expense of sending out the finished product. We aim to produce
not only our online version available through the website and as an RSS feed but, also to take each
chapter of an overall whole of our ongoing story to produce small
novella-length graphic-novel-style chap book. Donations to the project would allow us to produce
something of quality that would then be marketed to a wider audience and help
to pay for marketing costs and other related events to promote Martius Catalyst.
