Hey y'all! Welcome to the one woman show that is Western Whims. I created my line back in the spring of 2016 so I could make pearl snap western shirts for women. And then the men came a knockin' for their own whimsical masterpieces, so I obliged. Since then, I've also added skater dresses that I can't make enough of, along with accessories such as scarves, wallets, and pearl snap bags. Lucky for you, all those things will be available through this very Kickstarter!
So...you know how I just mentioned that I can't make enough of those skater dresses (come to think of it... my western shirts as well)? That's why I'm here. Western Whims has reached the tipping point where the demand is there, but I can't keep up with the load all by myself. In order for me to expand my line, sell to more places and, well, run my business in general, I need some help with the sewing. That's where y'all come in!
If I reach my goal, I will be able to have my clothes manufactured in a facility right here in my hometown called Stitch Texas. They're locally owned and pay all their employees, including their stitchers, a real living wage. They'll be able to produce far more garments than I can on my own at a much faster rate, which will allow me to get more of my goods to y'all. Even better, I'll be able to carry a range of sizes, rather than your standard S-M-L options.
IF YOU WOULD LIKE TO BACK MULTIPLE REWARD LEVELS, PLEASE SEND ME A MESSAGE OR EMAIL AND I WILL CREATE A CUSTOM REWARD LEVEL JUST FOR YOU!
So... How 'Bout Them Shirts?
Being a native Texan, cotton is by far my favorite fiber. All of my shirts are made from super soft and breathable cotton lawn, batiste, and shirt-weight denim. They are designed in flattering cuts that you can move and feel comfortable in. You'll also be able to keep them in your wardrobe forever (as long as you treat 'em right) because the silhouettes are timeless. The best part of all? They have pearl snaps!
For the Kickstarter, I will have three long sleeve versions available as rewards: a men's cut, a women's cut, and a women's sheath dress. All three versions will be available in all six fabrics shown below. The men's will be available in S-4XL and the women's will be available in XS-5X.
Note: The contrast colors for both floral prints will be different shades of blue than pictured for the production run. The Mellow Yellow Floral print will have a royal blue solid contrast fabric and the Springtime for Kittens print will have a navy solid contrast to match the cats.
The following photos show examples of how they'll look sewn up, but REMEMBER! Each fabric combination will be available in all three shirt styles and sizes listed (so ladies can have the bikes and the gents can rock that pink plaid if they so desire!). Shirts are 100% cotton unless otherwise specified.
But Wait... There's More!
For this Kickstarter ONLY, I will be making five limited edition short sleeved cowboy shirts (men's or women's) or dresses as pictured. Get 'em while they're hot! 100% cotton broadcloth contrasted with smooth 80% cotton 20% polyester denim (don't worry... it still breathes).
Ready to Twirl?
Sometimes, we ladies just need something cute, soft, and stretchy, so I give you... The Western Whims Skater Dress!
The material is a medium weight 95% cotton 5% spandex jersey and will come in two styles and seven color options. Also... THEY HAVE POCKETS!!! They're perfect for work, going out, and lounging around fashionably. Pair them with boots and you're ready to two-step!
The first skater dress style (aka Skater Dress 1) has a cap sleeve with the skirt hitting slightly above the knee. The second skater dress style (aka Skater Dress 2, pictured third in the blue bicycle print) has a sleeve that hits at the elbow with the skirt hitting slightly below the knee. Both styles will be available in all 7 color options and in XS-5X.
The Bear Accessories
My love of fun prints continues in my line of accessories including scarves, wallets, and pearl snap bags.
Infinity scarves will be available in the same prints listed for the skater dresses and are made from the same super soft cotton spandex jersey. They measure 15" wide and 70" around.
The wallets are made from 100% cotton, most are canvas, but some are denim or interfaced broadcloth. They include a cash pocket, six card holders, a receipt holder, a zippered coin pouch, and a pearl snap closure. Available prints will be announced at the conclusion of the Kickstarter.
Last, but not least, I will have pearl snap bags made from the same materials as the wallets. They measure 6.5"x6.5", have a 48" strap, and a pocket inside.
Stretch It Out!
So, what happens if I meet my goal way before the deadline? A of all, YAY! B of all, for every $10K I go over my goal, I will add a new shirt or skater dress print for y'all to choose from! Starting with a shirt print at $35K, I will announce the new available prints on the Updates tab and will alternate between the two.
Let's Do This!

Risks and challenges
I have spent several months working with Stitch Texas in pre-production mode to ensure a smooth and speedy final production run.
Here is the anticipated timeline:
-During the Kickstarter, Stitch Texas will be grading and digitizing my patterns and producing samples to make sure they produce a quality product.
-Immediately after the Kickstarter, I will send out a survey to backers to request their size and color preferences.
-I will order fabric at the end of November.
-While waiting for the fabric to arrive, Stitch Texas and Western Whims will conduct a size run to make sure that all the patterns work and fit properly.
-Once the sizes are perfected and the fabric arrives, Stitch Texas will enter production in January. I will be working on the accessories on my own in December and January.
-All items will be delivered by the end of February.
What could go wrong?
It's entirely possible that I will contact my fabric suppliers and they will have the fabric you chose on backorder, pushing back the production timeline. It could also happen that while they currently have a fabric in stock, it could sell out by the end of the Kickstarter. In that case, I will contact the backers who requested that fabric and offer an alternative.
Stitch Texas might have more people in the queue ahead of me, also delaying production. However, I have spoken with the crew at Stitch Texas and, based on their predictions, the clothes should be ready to ship by the promised date.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
