Hi everyone! My name is Mohammed Fayaz, and I am a queer Muslim illustrator who publishes artwork under the pseudonym Mojuicy. My work is intent on illuminating the lives of queer people of color in all of our realities. My artwork celebrates a community that doesn't get to see themselves represented in media and I want to portray the tenderness you don’t really see offered to us regularly. As a content creator, I feel a strong responsibility to depict this closeness in my work.
So why Mojuicy MAC? I know a ton of young Black and brown creatives I would love to support more regularly, but being a patron of the arts often feels like an unrealistic luxury. How can we sustainably support artists making work that we love and vibe with? My artwork lends itself to real world interaction, and I want to be available beyond just art prints. As a result, I am launching the Mojuicy Mail Art Club this month to fill a gap in sustainable participation with art. Being able to send cards to our friends and lovers reflecting the world that we know is key to our survival.
With a Mojuicy MAC subscription, you get first access to original artwork delivered in three curated packages through the rest of 2015. See queer people of color honestly depicted in the way that we live and love and chill out, all in bite-sized, shareable goodies.
What do I get in a package? Feel summertime fine with some Mojuicy favorites printed onto buttons, postcards, stickers, temporary tattoos, a matchbook, and a signed limited edition print in the first of three packages to be delivered in 2015. Expect thematic and holiday packages later in the year, with an option for surprise apparel! If you've bought prints from me before, you know that an 8 x 10 print starts at $20.00, so what comes out to $30.00 per package is actually such a juicy little deal!
Cuuuuuuute! What's next? Thanks!! For my first ever Kickstarter, I am seeking to raise funds to build an initial subscriber base for the 2015 Mojuicy Mail Art Club. The $80.00 Reward Level acts as a pre-order for the full Mojuicy Mail Art Club subscription, in which subscribers will receive three packages through the rest of the 2015 calendar year. You could also try one package for $30.00, with the option to buy two more later this year if you're into it. The rewards outside of this subscription are full of goodies, with more elaborate commission and studio based rewards on the higher end.
If the Mail Art Club price points are too high but you still want to support this project, there are some low cost reward tiers, or you can just reblog and share this post on your feeds. All of the love and support is seen and felt, you guys shower me with so much love and it keeps me going in those long nights!
Send postcards to your friends or adorn your laptop with love that looks like your love, skin that glows like yours, and hair that curls like your own. Support intentional artists of color and while celebrating your beauty, too.
I am really excited to get off the internet and let my work breathe in the world that it comes from.
Risks and challenges
Finding a really great small business printing service has been an ongoing problem for me, but I finally have some leads on promising vendors. I love the service I use for stickers and buttons, but am going to have to decide on a sustainable printer for the postcards and prints.
My biggest concern is the nightmare that is shipping. Amazon has got us thinking it's a nominal cost nowadays but it's actually such a monster! I'm intent on maintaining a level of accessibility in these print packages, but I worry that baseline shipping costs are going to put up barriers for a lot of people. My first package from Mojuicy MAC should spell out all the hurdles of shipping for both me and my subscribers.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
