Bad news and good news
Bad first: Steam (PC/Mac) release has been pushed to September 27th.
The good news is that reception on the Xbox version has been totally overwhelming for our little team of developers. Mostly it has been very positive, as you can see from the early reviews (link).
With the large number of players on Xbox we have also uncovered bugs we want to fix, both in the Xbox and Steam version. We simply do not have the capacity to do it all and do it well at the same time.
So we would rather take the heat for pushing the release now, rather than releasing a game on Steam we are not happy with.
Please bear with us, and if the response from the Xbox players is something to go by, all you Steam, PS4 and Nintendo gamers waiting for Earthlock: Festival of Magic have something to look forward to!
And just so you can understand we have got our hands full, here is an overview of the coming milestones:
We did it!!! Thank you all for backing Earthlock: Festival of Magic back in 2014! The game is finished for the Xbox One and is releasing tomorrow! We can't even begin to describe how incredible it feels to have made it! We've worked on this thing since well before the campaign, and now it's finally going to be in the hands of players all around the world! Thank you so much for believing in us when we were on Kickstarter, and we hope you will all enjoy the game once you have it.
We are not going to lay down and rest however! We still have the PS4, WiiU and Linux version that are coming up as well as the Steam version for PC and Mac that we unfortunately have to delay a little bit in the interest of delivering the best possible experience for the people that want the game for those platforms. More on that below.
The BackerKit survey should be out as soon as the BackerKit Team wake up on the west coast and approves the survey.
Steam Launch Postponed 10 days!
We are uploading build with PC and mouse interface to Steam tomorrow, but we don’t want to launch it before it is properly tested. All our Kickstarter backers from the beta access tier and up should have their beta keys, and so you should all be able to test the game now, but as mentioned previously in regards to a beta; It’s purpose is there to help us find bugs.
The main issue we're working on is the interface for mouse and keyboard as well as getting in options for selecting resolutions and such for the PC/Mac version.
To all of you who just want to enjoy the finished game on Steam, please wait another 10 days. It was a hard decision to make, but at the end of the day, we want to be able to give you a properly tested game.
We have gone over the different tiers on the Kickstarter and updated where needed. The most important part of the survey is of course to get the right game keys out to our backers. After that there are addons. Some addons are no longer viable, so we will have to deal with those after the launch.
Getting the word out
We're working hard on getting the word out about Earthlock these days, and we're sending three of our team over to PAX to show the game to all the lovely gamers and press what we have achieved! We're also emailing journalists all over to let them know they can play and review our game now.
Frits and Bendik are flying off to Seattle tomorrow morning at 04:00 am. They are meeting up with Andrew and Eiko and will be at booth 7309 on the 6th floor at PAX West for the next 5 days. If any of our backers are at PAX we'd love to say hi and show you the game!
PS4, Wii U, Linux and GOG
Once we have launched the Steam version we will direct all our efforts into the PS4 version. Once that is done we will move on to the Wii U version. We have set up a Linux test station at the office this week and will begin the QA process for linux in parallel with the other versions.
We have everything we need from GOG at this point, but in order to launch on GOG we will need to implement an SDK and for now, that implementation is in the big queue along with everything else. It is too early to say when we will have time to make the GOG version. We will keep you posted.
