Utopia Now!

We did it! Really, YOU did it: 111 backers, over 30 days, contributed $4350 to The Open Utopia -- almost $1000 more than I was asking for!  Thanks to you, No-Place (Greek: ou = not & topos = place) will reside Someplace. Thank you, thank you, thank you!

In a few days I'l be sending out a message to get your mailing addresses, etc. so I can send you your Utopia-schwag.

More immediately, I want to ask for your help in locating a stellar Wordpress maven with a commitment to open source and an exquisite aesthetic eye to help me redesign the site. If this description fits anyone you know please let me know at stephen.duncombe@nyu.edu

As I mentioned in my second update, I've gone ahead and hired a translator -- Jake Butera -- to translate the last remaining letters outside public domain from Latin to  English. I'm also going to put him on a retainer to help me puzzle through translation issues as they come up (and so I can impress people at dinner parties by telling them I have a Classics Scholar on retainer). I'm starting to assemble a team of actors to read and record Utopia -- including the two backers who contributed $500. The content of More's text is 90% complete, I just need to finish the footnotes and marginalia of Book II and the whole book will be ready for posting. I'm also contemplating adding additional channels for utopian art and a user-generated map of "actually existing" utopias around the world. I'll keep you abreast as the site develops.

Again, none of this would be possible without your support. Thank you.

All my best, Steve
