Finer Homes and Gangsters is a comedy thriller set on Cape Cod. Chaos ensues when wealthy Sophie Vanderwater finds herself trying to pull off the perfect girls’ weekend at her posh beach house while covering for a mob deal gone horribly wrong.
Thanks to a pre-nup, she is facing a financially difficult exit from her marriage, but a distant connection with the underworld may provide the desperate Sophie with a solution. On the weekend her friends arrive, shady characters also show up to finish the deal and take what's theirs.
Sophie’s soon-to-be ex-husband Grant also crashes the party with his new, much younger girlfriend. Can Sophie make peace with her friends and a truce with the gangsters, without getting them all arrested or worse?
Our story features lots of comedic roles for women, which is something we're really looking forward to bringing to audiences! (Scroll down for our cast list.)
We will be shooting Finer Homes and Gangsters for 20 days in March of 2014!
Albion Park Productions is Amanda Good Hennessey, Brad Kelly and Art Hennessey. We are friends and colleagues who have worked in film, television and on stage for over a decade.
Art will be directing. Brad will be the Director of Photography. Once on set, Amanda will solely be an actress. Till then, she'll be in the trenches with Art and Brad, revising the script and getting everything ready to roll.
We are currently in the process of hiring crew, those folks behind the scenes that make so much of the magic happen.
Our location is secured! When we set out to write a script for our feature film, we started by looking at locations we might have access to, and then thought of stories that we could tell within those spaces. We discarded many ideas until we came up with the story that became Finer Homes and Gangsters. This story fit perfectly within a large, lovely house near the water in Chatham, MA that we have access to in the off season. We are very fortunate to have a beautiful location where much of our story takes place.
We have many elements in place to make this movie, mostly due to the generosity of friends and others in the film industry.
YOU can be involved, too, by helping us to MAKE THIS HAPPEN!
After the festival success of our short film we decided it was time to tackle a feature!
A few years ago, we decided that it would be a great challenge to make our own movies with other people we knew. Our initial goal was to make a short film in the best, most professional way we possibly could.
Our first project, The Oblique Sector, exceeded our wildest expectations by being accepted to premiere at the prestigious Nantucket Film Festival! It then went on to have a great festival run across the country, including picking up an award for best live action short film.
We really enjoyed giving audiences at these film festivals a twisted comedy about relationships and destiny. Our next project will involve a much bigger canvas, but, like The Oblique Sector, we are focusing on a story about issues that are very personal to most people. and then twisting it a bit to create a comedic world that mashes up genres.
We also love introducing the unexpected into our stories.
And we want you to be involved in bringing this story to life!
The greatest resources in a film, especially a comedy, are the performers. We are so excited to have cast some the best talent from the Boston area alongside some incredibly talented and funny actors from New York City.
And we are especially happy that our story provides so many parts for women.

Sophie Vanderwater is high-end, high-strung and nearly undone; she's facing an imminent divorce from the scion of a wealthy family. Too bad she signed that prenup! But she has a plan....
Grant Vanderwater is the wealthy manager of the Vanderwater Fund, an exclusive investment portfolio set up by his great-grandfather. And nothing is going to stop him from a fun weekend at the beach house with his new, young, sexy yoga instructor girlfriend, not even his wife.
Fawn is Grant's sexy new squeeze. When Fawn shows up unexpectedly to Sophie's carefully planned giirls' weekend, she just wants to help. But can she assist Sophie with a criminal deal gone bad?
Sutton Strada is a trendy artist whose career is taking off, while her moral compass is spinning out of control.
Darcy is always armed with the tastiest homemade treats for every event. Her heart is as full as her recipe box. However, her culinary skills may not be enough to navigate this high-stakes weekend complete with mobsters and mayhem.
Blake is an academic whose intellect is as sharp as her wit. She is not one to suffer fools, or their bad ideas, gladly. Look out bad ideas. But she does bring great wine to any party.
Meredith is a mischievous mother of three who desperately needs a weekend away. When things at the party start to go south, she’s the one who tries to talk a certain someone off a ledge. And she can Zumba.
Penelope is an idealist socialite who supports various causes while supported by her trust fund. Zoltan, a passionate activist, is the new man in her life. Her parents are not excited by Cupid's latest work.
Birch is a mob heavy who might have met the match of his waning career when he makes a deal with Sophie, a wealthy woman who has nothing left to lose.
Joey is a young mobster trying to find his way in the worlds of crime and girls' weekends. When Joey is sent to meet Sophie and Sutton to take care of business, all involved are quite ill-equipped to handle what unfolds.
Jimmy Flynn is the mob boss to Birch and Joey. Cool and cunning, he’s in charge and with good reason.
One of the founders of the Occupy movement, Zoltan is in a passionate on-again and off-again love affair with Penelope. Right now, it’s off again.
If you needed a good cop and a bad cop, Officer Oliver Ogle would be horribly miscast as the bad cop. He's a sweetie pie of a guy who's on duty in a community that sees very little action in winter. Ollie has a crush on Sophie, who doesn't know he’s alive.
Lola is a newbie mixologist who gets caught in the mix. Though measuring isn’t her strong suit, she somehow was dubbed “Best of Billerica”.
Glad you asked! A feature film has many expenses, here are some of the major costs we will have during the shoot.
CAST: Actors are paid for every day they are on set, and they receive money for transportation to and from the location.
EXPERIENCED CREW: We have a great cast, and Brad is a fantastic cinematographer, but we need to be able to hear these wonderful actors and see them clearly, and they need to be dressed and made-up for the camera! Experienced lighting, sound and makeup artists are hired by the day. We have contacted some very experienced sound and lighting professionals and plan to work with them within our projected budget.
EQUIPMENT: Camera lenses, lights, and sound equipment... These are among the tools that the crew members will use to make our actors look and sound their best! All of this equipment costs money to rent on a daily basis. We do own some of our own equipment, but will still need to rent additional gear.
FOOD: We need to provide meals to feed our hungry cast and crew members. This can really add up. For instance, when we shoot the climactic scene of our movie, we will have up to 26 people on set for the day.
HOUSING: We are lucky enough to have secured some free housing for our needs, but we still need more! If you have a residence near Chatham, MA that you would be willing to host our cast and crew at, please let us know. Otherwise, we may need to pay for some housing. Off season on Cape Cod has some reasonable rates, but it still can escalate the budget quickly.
It has been an eighteen month journey through writing and revising the script, casting the film, creating a production schedule, coming up with a detailed budget and working with SAG-AFTRA, the actors' union.
We invite you to get involved in this crucial stage of production.
Your contribution to our successful Kickstarter campaign will make the difference!
Check out the rewards that are available in the column to the right and back our project today! Any amount helps us reach our goal.
Sharing our campaign with people you know, or on Facebook and other social media, goes a long way towards making this project successful. So tell a friend!
If you have skills or something else to offer that you think would be valuable and/or help to decrease our budget or our stress, please let us know!
Thanks so much for believing in us and our vision for this story!
Art, Brad and Amanda!
We have set our timing for production based upon the best availability of both our location and the actors we wanted for the movie. This window for production is March 2014.
This will be our first feature film we are producing together, but all three of us have worked on feature films, produced and worked on many short films and also corporate video projects throughout our careers.
If this Kickstarter campaign is successful, we will be able to make Finer Homes and Gangsters, but it will still be on a very tight budget and we will have to squeeze all we can out of every dollar.
We have already put a lot of time and effort into making this movie, and we are also putting our own money into the production. We secured legal representation to help us with contracts, permits, licensing and other issues. We will also have production insurance and our performers are being bonded through SAG/AFTRA.
When it comes to fulfillment of the rewards we are offering, we have tried our best to give a reasonable timeline for delivery. There could be unforeseen problems in the production that may result in a delay of some rewards. For instance, rewards like DVDs and digital downloads of the film rely on the film being completed.
If there is a delay in the fulfillment any aspect of the project, we will communicate it immediately.
We are very grateful to any supporters of our project and we are determined to make this project a success for you!
WE THANK ALL OF YOU FOR YOUR SUPPORT!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
