The Quiet American Vol III: Wild Bill Jones is an album of traditional and original folk music that tells the story of one of America's most famous murder ballads, Wild Bill Jones. A classic love triangle that ends in tragedy, this album explores all sides of the story!
First recorded in 1924, the song Wild Bill Jones is about a young woman who goes out walking with a "bad man" Wild Bill Jones. Her lover confronts them and kills Wild Bill Jones in a violent rage. The Quiet American takes this ballad as a starting point for a folk opera/concept album/song cycle that includes original music as well as re-purposed traditional songs. This approach allows the listener to hear all sides of the tragic story and explore love, loss and redemption through the eyes of each character.
In order to get the best possible sounds for the record, Aaron has enlisted two of the NW's most experienced studios and engineers: Adam Selzer at Type Foundry Studies in Portland (M. Ward, The Decemberists) and Michael Connolly at Empty Sea studios in Seattle (Martha Scanlan, Coyote Grace). The goal is to create a one of a kind CD that pays homage to the folk tradition while engaging modern listeners as well.
Aaron's unique voice is accompanied by his guitar, ukulele, banjo and bass playing. His wife Nicole adds vocals, harmonium and percussion to the mix. Special guests include the Canote Brothers on fiddle and guitar.
This campaign is to help pay for recording, mixing and mastering. If we beat the goal, we will put the money towards pressing cds, graphic design and publicity. Thank you for all of your support, I hope you can be a part of the project!
