Kernel cards - A simpler way to a digital content strategy

£5,220

We made Kernel cards to help people create a digital content strategy quickly and easily. They are for :
Design & digital agencies (who want to help clients reach more people)
Marketing departments (who want to maximise their budget)
Small businesses (who want to get noticed)

How do you use them?

Our cards can be used in workshops or by individuals to prioritise strategic ideas. How they work is simple...

There are six colour coded categories: Business goals, audience types, metrics, platforms, formats and content types. You start by selecting business goals, metrics and audience types appropriate to the business, then add platforms, formats and content types that might resonate with that audience. Once you have laid all this on the table you can quickly shuffle, swap, add or take away items based on budget, effort and resources.

What this means is that you save time at the beginning of a session. Rather than having a 20 minute discussion over what platforms and content types exist, you are discussing whether those platforms and content types are right for your audience.

We know that not everyone is as obsessed as us with the wide range of distribution platforms and services currently available, so we also put together a handy pocket sized guide to platforms. A snapshot of what each service does, who's using it and how it might be of use in a glance-able easy to read format.

Cards allow multiple people get to get involved

Teams can easily show hierarchy by the positioning of cards on the table or create themes around distribution platforms.

Because you started with the full range of options you can be confident that you haven't missed an opportunity, and because you are choosing what to keep on the table based both on your audience and your resources, you are starting with a strong foundation.

Crafting the deck

After testing a few prototypes with both clients and other agencies and getting really positive results, we decided to turn to Kickstarter to make Kernel Cards available to anyone.

We explored different ways to package and hold the final cards and have created and costed a beautiful product that with your help we can make into a reality. Giving more people the ability to unlock their digital potential with a physical deck of cards.

Risks and challenges

Having a background in design means we are used to producing both physical printed items as well as digital experiences. Our craft and print knowledge have been put to work to specify and cost a production method that will enable us to deliver a beautiful set of objects that are a pleasure to use.

We’ve explored different ways to package and hold the final cards and have worked with UK heritage paper manufactures GFSmith, who make premium paper products for companies from Burberry to Wimbledon to ensure the quality of the final product that with your help we can make into a reality.

We have planned out multiple scenarios for producing different quantities of the final product. But as we have no intention to cut the quality, then the only potential risk we see is in speed of delivery. i.e. if we are inundated with requests then backers who sign up later might experience a delay in receiving the final product.
