The SunFlower Project
The SunFlower Project is the beautification of urban environments: Encouraging life to grow between the cracks, inspiring people to look outside of themselves, towards the potential of their surrounding environments, and to be creative!
For the past two years, I have been planting sunflowers in Providence, receiving great feedback and creating enthusiasm for more initiatives like this. This year with your support I will design a garden in Providence and expand the sunflower project to my home town- New York City.
The SunFlower Project 2012: Garden & Plantings
The first phase is designing an innovative garden at the Rhode Island School of Design. This garden will incorporate indigenous plants, sunflowers and a hand made dovecote (also known as a pigeon coop). The garden’s purpose is to inspire the interest of local communities, acting as an educational destination for kids participating in RISD’s out-reach programs.
The second phase of the SunFlower Project is to plant hundreds of sunflowers in Providence, Rhode Island, and then in New York City. This summer of 2012 will be the first time that the project takes place in two cities, so it will require alot of support!
How will your pledge be used?
You and Kick Starter will be the launching pad for my first community project out side of the Rhode Island School of Design. Funds raised will give the support needed for me to reach the greatest amount of people, and leave a powerful impact on our urban society.
With the money donated, I can establish a team of young people who share my passion, making this an annual event, with the potential to expand to many cities!
Funds will go to materials needed to construct the garden, and to provide the team with essentials such as food and gear. It is important that all of this is documented, so I will also be hiring artists to take photos and film the project- Allowing investors like you to experience the process and journey. This project will not be possible without your collaboration, thank you for your support!
How else can you help?
Spread the word, the more people I can reach out to, the better! If you are from Providence or New York City and know of a garden that needs sunflowers, or streets where sunflowers can be planted, please contact me. If you personally want to join the campaign and plant sunflowers, contact me. If you want to interview or film the team, we would be happy to work with you. Together we can create bridges, inspire people to think about nature and the urban environment in new ways!
