Mellivora was born out of the desire to create unique product that tells a story. As the initial idea to start an active-adventure apparel line came to fruition, so did questions of how we could truly make a global impact with our brand. What is the best processing practice to ensure a minimal environmental footprint? How can Mellivora’s way of doing business not only help our own employees, but become a model for others to follow and change the face of retail business as we know it? In order to put these thoughts into perspective and move forward with a plan, we had to establish a mission to drive every decision and keep us in check. As Mellivora grows and evolves, the core mission will remain, so let’s break it down:
The entire idea and founding principle of Mellivora is to help you find inspiration, and to get you out on your own adventure. Getting ready for an afternoon at the mall suddenly becomes the idea to take a quick road trip and experience something new, all because your Mellivora leggings spoke to you from the dresser drawer.
The gear is made to wear, not wear out.
Each piece will continue to be made to the highest quality and ethical standards, right here in Colorado and the US. We truly do believe in buying better and buying less, and we want to show the world that having a more simplistic lifestyle is the key to happiness.
The adventure is real. Every piece, every adventure, has a story.
This final statement speaks to Mellivora’s mission and movement on two facets- our product and our people. Mellivora expresses our passion and inspires people who wear our leggings, so we as a brand must live our own philosophy in order to be successful. No shutterstock photos here; every print of the Mellivora collection will continue to come directly from our team adventures.
Mellivora is not only about connecting to nature and adventure, but also to your everyday. Conscience decisions about what we purchase and whom that purchase directly benefits and supports is at the cornerstone of how we will change the world. I have watched corporate giants take huge profits, while their employees on the front lines of customer service and manufacturing are left with a meagar salary to live (or die) on. If we want sweatshop conditions and employee maltreatment to end, we must do our research and stop buying products that have zero meaning from companies who operate this way. My personal goal is for Mellivora to be employee-owned one day. I really want us to be a successful example that companies can thrive through respecting and collaborating with their employees.
As you can see, we’ve got some pretty lofty ambitions as a startup company. Our journey is largely uncharted and it won’t be easy, but we believe in it whole-heartedly. This is how we know that Mellivora will be successful. Thank you for taking the time to learn more about us. We hope that our story and mission resonates with you. If so, please help us spread the word!
Over and out, Chris
Risks and challenges
Mellivora is a small startup company with lofty ambitions!
Coming out of our first full round of production, we are confident that we’ve smoothed out any major wrinkles (pun intended) in our process. We intend to continue working with our small batch producer to ensure our quality and ethical standards are being met, and have a growth plan in place for adjusting production as need.
Though we are little, we are a fierce marketing team! Outside of production, much of our time is spent organically collecting a fan base. Though we have been relatively successful in this pursuit, Mellivora needs your support to create a higher level of brand awareness.
As any new company can expect, the Mellivora team is sure that we will face multiple opportunities and challenges. Through dedication to the highest standard of business practices, we are also sure that Mellivora will continue to grow and become not only a product of inspiration, but also a business of such!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
