Disaster Capitalism invited to prestigious Hot Docs film festival
Dear supporters and friends,
Greetings after a long silence but we've been busy!
We wanted to tell you that our documentary has just been accepted into the prestigious Hot Docs festival in Toronto in May, one of the leading documentary festivals in the world, to pitch our film to find funding, distribution and recognition. It's an amazing opportunity and we're still in shock (though in a thoroughly pleasant way). Hot Docs is THE annual place for documentary film-makers, producers, distributors, film fans, agents and the industry to gather and talk, promote and support documentaries.
In the last year we have finished 90% of shooting on the film. A highlight was visiting Afghanistan in 2015, a tough but rewarding experience, and we've now begun work on a rough cut edit of our feature film. We've applied for countless grants around the world and once again received support from Bertha last year, the philanthropic organisation that funds films like the Oscar-nominated Dirty Wars and Virunga.
Our film covers Afghanistan, Haiti, Papua New Guinea, international aid, development and global politics and we're following these issues closely. Antony's recent book, Disaster Capitalism: Making A Killing Out Of Catastrophe, tackles these subjects in great detail.
We're excited that our documentary, after a five-year journey, is gathering momentum and we couldn't have done it without you so thank you!
Thanks for coming on this ride with us and we hope to share more great news soon.
Antony and Thor
