"Our troops discarded their pikes and got to work with their swords. Suddenly the cavalry was noticed in the rear; other cohorts drew near. The enemy turned to flee, the cavalry met them in flight, and a great slaughter ensued..." Caesar's Gallic War, Book 7:88.
In 2018 Rhiannon Evans and Matt Smith created Caesar's Gallic War, a podcast miniseries exploring the text of Julius Caesar's famous campaign against the Gallic tribes to the north of Rome in granular detail. Analysis, careful structure, stories, appendices, random Asterix references and discursive footnotes are just some of the things you could expect, and may be rewarded with.
The first series of the podcast took us to the midway point of the text. Now, they hope to complete that journey…
This podcast is not publicly available. It is a private podcast, exclusively for those who back it through this Kickstarter campaign.
Why are we fundraising?
This campaign is to produce series 2 of the Caesar's Gallic War podcast.
It takes time to plan, research, record and edit a podcast. This podcast is our own project, made without sponsorship and backing. It is also a niche interest topic - it won't have the audience capacity to attract advertisers, and so must turn to listeners for support.
Enough with the sales pitch, what do I get?
Centurion level ($30AU)
This pledge will get you the 13 episodes of series 2 of the podcast. This assumes that you supported series 1, and are eager to hear the rest of the story. Podcasts run at a narratively appropriate length (generally 30+ minutes) and will be released on a vaguely monthly schedule.
Prefect level ($50AU)
For those who are new to this adventure, this level will get you immediate access to the first series of Caesar's Gallic War (11 episodes) and series 2 as they are produced.
Legate level ($55AU + postage)
This will get you all 13 episodes of series 2, as well as a 'Caesar's Gallic War' coffee mug, with exclusive art from Rich Morris.
Imperator level ($160AU + postage)
At this reward level you will be introduced by the orator as the patron of an episode. You will also get the 'Caesar's Gallic War' coffee mug and all 13 episodes of series 2.

Risks and challenges
The biggest factor in podcast production is time to research, record and edit. We have a proven track record of producing podcasts, and intend to release this project on a regular schedule.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
