UL Testing, Production and Shipping

Posted by Michael Carpanzano (Creator)

Hi everyone!

Hope you all are doing well. Sending along a quick update so you are in the loop with our current status with NuPlug.

We successfully passed UL testing. Production is now officially underway, and the inventory should be shipped to the U.S. by the end of June. Once we have the inventory in hand, we will begin shipping product immediately to you all. I recognize that we didn’t hit the timeline I last shared in February, but we’re getting there. I’ll post photos of the inventory the moment it's received.

Thank you for your continued support and patience with this project.

Michael

It's now mid-July and still no nuplug. I think we deserve a another update.

Should be about time for another update full of lies. I wonder what the problem will have been this time that keeps him from shipping??

Refund. Refund. Refund. This is a dead project. Pebble has Kickstarter and launched two (soon to be three) watches and you've shipped NOTHING!

Mid-June, how are we tracking towards to end of June deadline?

Come on, man. At least tell us what is going on. Clearly time has passed this product by. Are you really going to keep us on the hook. Just say you are abandoning the project already.

This comment has been removed by Kickstarter.

In an effort to mitigate the damage to the environment that you have caused and will continue to cause through your (alleged) production and shipping of this obsolete, monstrosity of a product, can you please provide a link so I can find the nearest electronics recycling facility?

I am thinking this Kickstarter fail should be called Old Plug. Seems more appropriate.

Good point @Chad Plamer, Creator, please send mine to @David Alofsin so it doesn't go straight to a landfill.

You people have it all wrong! Don't ask him to not send you your item....then he not only took your money, but will sell it AGAIN for more. If you're so angry about this campaign, have him send you his inventory and trash it (or recycle it if you're environmentally conscious, or use it as a paper weight), that way his first run batch gets depleted and at least he can't profit more on it.

So, you're just going to ignore the people who want a refund?

@Brad -- While I do appreciate that $29 isn't excessive for years of entertainment, I unfortunately pledged $58. Things are going to have to get a lot funnier before I feel I've gotten $58 worth of amusement.

    21. John Pitta on

Brad, You said how long its been and I didn't believe it.
Wow - June 5, 2013 this was funded. It is indeed the gift that keeps giving. I specifically wait a few hours to look at the comments for all the juicy stuff.

Whenever I see updates go out I can just imagine the creator cringing, clicking send, then powering off the computer for the day. I do not know if it is better to acknowledge the complaints and hatred or just to ignore it and "plug" along.

    22. Brad Matthews on

A few more months have passed and we've received another update. The comments are craftier then ever. Honestly, this is the best $29 I've ever spent, because the comments are hilarious. At this point, I'm guessing we're all a part of an elaborate joke that only cost us $29 to participate in. Just think about it. Who would have ever thought three years ago you could simply pay $29 for three years of ongoing & unexpected comedy? No, really, only $29. It's the gift that keeps on giving and we're not even done yet! Surely, our kids we'll read about this one day in future economics course books of failed business models with a picture of Michael Carpanzano. I'm praying that Michael & this story end up on a future season of Last Comic Standing. His set would start with, "Back in 2013, I had this idea of how to drive a group of people nuts for 3 years and they would pay me $29/each to do it......." Well played, Michael, well played. You sir, are a comedic genius. I applaud you.

Please make sure you at least send out a request about updated addresses before shipping.

    24. Michael Stephens on

The refund I requested years ago was never given. I'd like my money back as I backed the product you pitched initially. What you're now working on isn't what I backed.

Folks, we *gambled* $29 on a campaign that required UL lab approval. Many Kickstarter campaigns just run out of steam. The money is spent (and probably more). Did he underestimate UL? Yes. Did he stick with it when he didn't have to. Yes.

Some of you would implode if you ever went to Vegas.

      Tyler Freeman on

Once again, please provide the refunds you promised.

This looks nothing like what I backed and I do not want it. It is ugly and obsolete. If you lack the morals to provide refunds, at least provide us a means to opt out of recieving the product so we can save the environment and our landfills.

To those saying kickstater is not a store, I agree. However the creator chose to take our money to allow him to redesign a commercial product with with corporate partners rather than making and shipping us the product we backed:

"Combined with reward production and shipping costs, there was not enough money to complete both an initial production run and a redesign, retool and re-test the commercial version of the NuPlug.
As I mentioned in my last Project Update, it was a difficult decision as I knew it would bring about delivery delays, but ultimately, moving forward exclusively with the redesign is yielding a better product."

I thus feel no sympathy for the creator and consider him a shyster that deserves every one of these negative comments. Every choice he has made has been to server his own self interests and he has blatantly ignored his backers at every turn. I am very upset that my money went to support a BS patent, and fund Edison Nation's product design process.

    28. David Alofsin on

      Mike,
Send me all of the ones that people don't want and I will find a good use for them at my school, or at a local non-profit.
Or perhaps you don't read the comments anymore, which I would totally understand. If that is the case...http://screamintothevoid.com/

You guys do understand that this is not a store, right? Everytime you pledge for a product... You are taking a gamble. Sure the thing is not very pleasing to the eyes, but it wasn't to begin with. I will put it in the garage or something.

Keep doing your thing, Michael. Sure, it took you much longer than expected, but at least you are getting a product out in the end

Don't apologize for missing the February timeline promise, worry about the one 4 years ago... or was it 5. My daughter, who would have loved this in her dorm room, has since gone through her entire college education without it... and survived. Maybe I can give it to a child of hers when he/she goes to college... if it has been delivered by then.

Thank you for making an attempt to follow through. Anyone who's ever tried to start a business knows that it's NEVER as simple as making a product and selling it. If it shows up, I'm going to just throw it away anyhow. You should keep mine to keep it out of a landfill and save yourself the postage.
