nuskinn is similar to a cell phone case- it is a fun and decorative piece that pops onto the front of nuplug, adding more style and variety to this useful product. Here are some examples of what nuplug looks like with a nuskinn:

PURPOSE
This fundraiser is intended to provide us with the investment capital necessary to produce an initial production run of nuplug.
In order to do so, there are several major initial expenditures that we must incur; some of which include:
- Additional product testing
- Re-engineering for injection mold manufacture
- Product safety certification (eg. UL listing)
- Production scale tooling costs
Additionally, we must budget for our unit production costs and shipping costs. At our funding goal, we will have enough capital to manufacture a minimum order quantity (the minimum quantity that a manufacturer requires to actually bother making the product) which is a few thousand units.
Many of our internal components will be sourced overseas- this is inevitable as there are no longer manufacturers in the USA that make these products. However, we do plan to manufacture the product housing, and assemble the product, here in the USA. In fact, if we vastly exceed our funding goal, it may be possible for us to perform the assembly in-house.
Strategic relationships have already been established with local parts manufacturers as well as overseas component suppliers. When we reach our funding goal, we will be able to put our plans into immediate action.
PROJECTED PLAN (major milestones)
HOW IT ALL STARTED
I can remember one of the first times the need for nuplug became abundantly clear. One of my friends came over and brought his laptop to do some work. As he pulled my sofa away from the wall to plug in his charger cord, I started thinking about a better solution. I tried using a regular extension cord, but it ended up being more of a nuisance than anything else, since it was always hidden among the dust bunnies under the couch- or something I would hurt my foot with as I stepped on it. I soon found that this problem was not just mine, and it was not just with my sofa blocking the outlet behind it. From this point I started messing with some designs for a solution. A basic illustration of our design progression is shown here:
Although this is somewhat of an abridged version, the major concepts and changes are shown. After a few ideas and designs were thrown around, it was clear that this product needed to be less bulky than its predecessors, it needed to have as few moving parts as possible- for ease-of-use and durability, and needed to be versatile- to handle many situations and diverse furniture. I wanted nuplug to be a solution that was better than all the items sitting on the store shelves these days- and although there are many of them, there's really nothing out there that provides a clean, compact, intuitive, and versatile solution for this new need- I call it 'an impulsive need for convenient access to power'.
Going back to the original time when i saw my friend wrestling with my couch to plug in his laptop cord- it became obvious that this was not going to be the only time when someone might want to have convenient access to power while sitting on the couch. The explosion of smart-device prevalence in our lives has created a new level of behavior; that is, that we are no longer just setting down a cell phone to charge at the end of the day, then picking it up again in the morning. We find ourselves desiring continued use of the device- especially when it needs to charge! Therefore, we need a new solution for this relatively new problem- and that's how nuplug was born; nuplug is power within reach.

Nonetheless, risks have certainly been identified.
The ability to test and re-engineer the product, as well as identify the most appropriate final assembly materials is a short-term (timeline) risk. This is because each new material needs to be tested, and slight re-engineering needs to take place with the introduction of new material specifications and/or test results. In short, there are always potential unknowns in the redesign process that may necessitate creative solutions that add to our timeline. Although this is unavoidable and unpredictable, we have created a plan of action that will help us stay on task and organized. We will also continue to communicate with our community of supporters to inform you of our progress and update our expected delivery time.

Yes and No- the current configuration is the USA/Canada/Mexico 3 prong 120V AC plug. However, you CAN use the product in conjunction with an international adapter (not included). International plug configurations will be available in the future.
