We need to get the word out about the many pathways to recovery from substance use disorder, hence a short video featuring representatives from the many pathways to recovery!
We imagine many of you reading this are thinking, "Many pathways to recovery? What are you talking about?!!!" Our point exactly! Generally speaking, there has been one path to recovery that people know about, 12 Steps (Alcoholics Anonymous, Narcotics Anonymous, Cocaine Anonymous, etc), and while this pathway works for many, it doesn't work for everyone. Thankfully, there are other options out there (like SMART Recovery, Moderation Management, Women for Sobriety, etc.), but unfortunately, people do not know that these options are available to them. Our job is to change that!
Choice in Recovery's mission is to unite the many pathways to recovery (recovery support services) and educate the public and professionals in the field about the existing recovery support services. We deliver on our commitment by uniting representatives from the many pathways to recovery, presenting an innovative and dynamic panel discussion, and offering participants a chance to meet with representatives from different recovery programs to learn more. Choice empowers professionals in the field to truly operate a client centered practice.
Now this is wonderful and necessary, (not to play it down, it's actually extremely necessary that we start changing the conversation professionals are having with their clients) but we want to get the word about the many pathways to the general public out NOW. We want to serve the community at large while we continue to educate those in the field. And, we want to serve the community at large in an effective and professional manner - a video produced by a pro!
This is something we've been discussing for a while, but we haven't pushed the go button. We are pushing the go button!
It is about time we change the conversation. Everyone knows someone who has struggled with some type of substance use disorder. Whether it is themselves, their siblings, their parents, their parent's friend, their friend, etc. And just as everyone's journey down that path is different, it is about time we offer different paths out as well. It is about time to we change the conversation from you must go to this meeting, to, you have many options, choose. It is about time we empower individuals to choose their way out.
Our intention in creating this short video is to shine light on the many pathways to recovery that are available; from harm reduction, moderation, abstinence via the power of choice, etc. For the past two and a half years we have been working with representatives from the many pathways, empowering them to speak on a panel to a room of 30 to 60 individuals at a time. Now we want to empower them to speak on behalf of their pathway to the masses. So the masses know that they exist, so that next time someone is struggling, they can have an empowering conversation that gives that individual hope, whether that individual ever attends a meeting or not.
Risks and challenges
Our biggest risk is not getting the funding we need in time to schedule and shoot the video. Our video will include 11 representatives so finding a day where each representative can be present for their piece is tough! Additionally, our videographer will be flying out to Denver to do the shoot, the sooner we attain funding, the sooner everyone can schedule. She is AMAZING at what she does, so the risk is worth the reward :).
Thank you again for your time in watching our video, reading this page, and at the very least, considering our project. For those of you who choose to donate, THANK YOU, this is the only way for us to overcome the challenge stated above :).Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
