For GoPro® users by GoPro® users
The world’s most versatile camera deserves the world's best charger
Now for GoPro Hero3, Hero3+ and Hero4 Black cameras
As seen on
Being enthusiastic GoPro® users, we know the hassle involved with charging its batteries. You either have to open the housing, plug in the camera and wait for the battery to charge, or take out the battery too and put in a charger to charge. Neither one of these choices is a great option if you are in the middle of shooting some great action - especially outdoors around water, sand, or dirt.
We wanted to remove this pain point for us and other GoPro® users. We thought to ourselves: There has GOT to be a better way! So we set out to build a wireless charger that lets you charge a battery inside the camera AND the housing by just placing the camera on a pad. In fact you can charge as many cameras or batteries that you can fit on the pad (up to 3 batteries or 2 cameras).
After testing multiple wireless charging technologies and products over the last year, we have found the right technology by partnering with the most cutting edge wireless charging company in the world, Mojo Mobility. Mojo has the leading technology in wireless charging and their technology is backed by over 40 U.S. and international patents filed and granted. We teamed up with them to design and build our prototypes. We then put together an ace technology marketing and production team, and we now want to launch this product to share it with the GoPro® community. We call the product Jolt™.
What is Jolt?
Jolt™ is a wireless charger and battery set for your GoPro® Hero3 or Hero3+ or Hero4 Black cameras. You replace your battery inside the GoPro® cameras with Jolt™ batteries (same capacity, size and shooting time). Then simply drop one or more cameras (in or out of the Polycarbonate housing) on the pad and watch them get charged rapidly!
The glowing LED light surrounding the charger tells you if the batteries are charging, or finished charging. The wireless charging receiver is built into the battery so if you want to charge some extra back up Jolt batteries, just toss them on the pad and they charge too by themselves! The LED on the Jolt battery will let you know it’s charging or when the charging is complete. It’s that simple!
Nothing like this exists on the market today. With Jolt we want to make charging a GoPro® Camera as awesome as the camera is. We ask you to support us at Kickstarter. In return, you get the Jolt charger and battery at a discounted pre-release price so you can be the first one to enjoy this radically simple charging experience.
How does it work?
Jolt comes with a Jolt wireless charger pad and a Jolt Rechargeable Li-Ion Battery.
All you need to do is swap out the Hero3®, Hero3+® or Hero4 Black camera battery with Jolt battery (same capacity and charging time), plug Jolt pad into the power outlet and you are set. Jolt will charge your camera wirelessly when placed onto the Jolt pad.
Portable multi GoPro® charging
The Jolt is designed in such a way that it allows you to charge up to 3 batteries, or an extra camera, or even a combination of the battery and camera by simply placing them on the Jolt pad.
We have also made it easy for you to power the Jolt charger. You can plug it into a standard wall outlet at home or anywhere in the world (100 V to 240 V power supply included), connect it into the power port in your car with an optional auto power plug or use an external 12 V dc external battery pack of your choice available from many suppliers.
We want to make Jolt easy to use, portable, and just plain cool to keep up with your active lifestyle.
What devices can it be used with?
We are developing a Jolt battery that will work with GoPro® Hero3, Hero3+ camera and one for Hero 4 cameras. We are always excited about the new GoPro® cameras with cool new features. So as new cameras appear, we will be releasing batteries for them too, but rest assured that your Jolt charger will charge any Jolt battery today or in the future that we develop. You will also be able to charge different camera releases simultaneously on the same Jolt charger.
Jolt’s Secret Sauce
Wireless charging is based on induction which has been around since the invention of electricity. However, its use to charge mobile devices is a new technology that is appearing in some new mobile phones and tablets. One of our team members Pouyan Shams works at Mojo Mobility, a company providing wireless solutions for consumer electronics, mobile, automotive and wearable products. After reviewing multiple available technologies, we found Mojo’s patented Near Field Power® technology perfect for what we are trying to achieve.
One of the challenges we faced was that the current wireless technology available for mobile phone charging is not able to charge batteries at a distance of more than a couple of mm efficiently. This would not allow us to charge the battery inside the camera and the housing. Established in 2005, Mojo Mobility has been at the forefront of the development of wireless power technologies that allow consumers to charge and power their devices autonomously and easily in a variety of environments. Mojo Mobility has partnered with a number of device manufacturers to create unique, painless, advanced solutions for wireless charging for products ranging from mobile devices to high power Electric Vehicle charging.
What differentiates Mojo Mobility’s technology from other wireless charging technologies is that they’ve solved several shortcomings with current wireless charging products in the market. Using their technology, we can charge at a distance from the pad (necessary for when the battery is inside the camera and polycarbonate protective case), charge anywhere on the pad for easy use and we can charge multiple devices so you can place your cameras and batteries anywhere on the pad and charge multiple devices at the same time. We have worked with Mojo to design and test our Jolt pad and batteries.
Thin, light, and sleek Jolt makes it easy to find a place at home or carry when traveling
We have spent a lot of time designing and user testing multiple iterations of Jolt to develop a product that not only will impress you with how easy it is to use but also looks good. The final product fits seamlessly to your environment and your lifestyle. It is a thin and light pad, extremely easy to carry everywhere and easy to use. The grooves on the Jolt pad are an intuitive guide for the user indicating where to put the camera and/or battery on the pad and let the camera sit flat on the pad even when it’s in its protective case. The grooves together with a soft-touch plastic surface securely hold the camera and battery in place and ensure proper alignment of the transmitter and receiver for those situations like in a car where the charger may be moved about.
To add an extra touch, we are also providing an option for personalization of the pad by printing your favorite image, logo or design on the pad. See the personalized Jolt pad option below.
For the battery to be able to receive power wirelessly, it is necessary for a wireless power receiver to be embedded in the battery. Therefore, we have designed Jolt batteries that are fully compatible with GoPro® Hero3 Hero3+ and Hero4 Black cameras but can be charged when inside camera or by itself when placed on the Jolt pad. Hero 3 and Hero4 batteries are different so please make sure you pledge for the right battery. You can charge a combination of Hero3 and Hero4 camears or batteries on the same jolt pad.
The experience will simply transform the way you charge your GoPro® cameras.
We anticipate the retail cost of the device to be $89.99 for a bundle for a Jolt pad and Jolt battery. An extra battery will cost around $29.99.

Risks and challenges
We understand that building manufacturing and supply chain is a complex and challenging process. It requires operating in different parts of the world, on different systems and in different languages. To prevent any issues, Jolt has already started relationships with contract manufactures to allow enough time to bring the product to market. We have teamed up with two trusted manufacturing partners Berkeley Sourcing Group and Signal Search Group with operations based in USA and China with tens of years of production experience. Together we have identified and then audited contract manufacturers for the product and are ready to move forward and finalize design and transition to production. The Jolt team will also utilize Mojo’s expertise in design, testing and production of the system to ensure a smooth transition to manufacturing.
We believe we have set the budget and timeline for Jolt product development in a way that is achievable and manageable. At this point we do not foresee any issues that we have not thought through and evaluated.
Having said that if any unforeseen situations arise, we will keep our backers and customers fully informed as we go through our development and manufacturing cycle.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
