THE NEW STEEL GUITAR TRACKS ARE ADDED DOWN BELOW - CHECK THEM OUT!
My name is Mark Lavengood and I am a full-time, resonator guitarist with the "Lou-Grass" band, Lindsay Lou & the Flatbellys, based out of Ann Arbor, MI.
I recently made the push to be a full-time, performing artist, and it has been an amazing life transition. I am raising money to invest in a custom-made, resonator guitar and record a 7" vinyl representing my dobro and straight steel guitar playing.
In order to raise the money, I've come up with a solid list of incentives which you can view to the right of your screen (over there) ========>
For the last four years, I have worked several part-time jobs in order to supplement my income while working to become a full-time musician. As I mentioned, just two months earlier, I made that transition and it has been incredible! However, for the last four years, I have made many sacrifices and countless intentional, life choices in order to persevere on this artistic path. One of which being living in the technical definition of "poverty". This is the case for a large number of artists, and while we may live in financial poverty, our "quality of life" far exceeds the shortcomings of the credit union account. Nonetheless, I haven't ever had the financial luxury of having the up-front costs that a project like mine requires.
Just six months after buying my first dobro back in 2008, it was stolen from me out of my car. I never saw that instrument again. Out of necessity, I went back to Elderly Instruments and purchased my Hodgkins dobro, subsequently emptying the last $900 dollars from my bank account at the time.
Through a swift shift of karma, I am pleased to present this kickstarter fundraising campaign to the world!
My featured incentive for backing my kickstarter project is the opportunity to "Play It Forward" where you can purchase a 30-minute or 1 hour lesson and if you don't personally want it, I WILL FIND STUDENTS AND GIVE THEM FREE LESSONS all thanks to your generous kickstarter support!
For my recording project, I will record an original, instrumental song in Lansing, MI at Troubadour Studios with Lindsay Lou & the Flatbellys that will represent my resonator guitar playing and flat picking on the acoustic guitar. A side.
I will also record two original tracks and two standards with the Mark Lavengood Steel Guitar Band based out of Chicago at local legend, Jimmy Sutton's Hi-Style Studio in Chicago, IL to represent my straight-steel guitar playing. Three of these songs will be released for digital download, and the song that will be on the vinyl is "Centennial Stomp", an original composition of mine in the western swing style named after the infamous India Pale Ale brewed by Founder's Brewing Company in Grand Rapids, MI.
LISTEN TO THE STEEL GUITAR SESSIONS HERE!
"Centennial Stomp" - an original of mine written as an homage to Founder's Brewing Co.'s Centennial IPA.
"Steelin' Away the Windy City Blues" (with Peter "Madcat" Ruth joinin' the band!) - this was the first song I wrote when I started playing the steel guitar in 2010.
"Limehouse Blues" - one of my favorite Django Rheinhardt Tunes!
"Blues Walk" - first introduced to me through the Alma College Percussion Ensemble...the band really brought the energy on this one!
By supporting my project, you not only get the personal gratification in supporting me as an artist so that I may shine my light into society, you will also receive a variety of really unique REWARDS ranging from my steel guitar, dobro, acoustic guitar, 7" vinyls, music lessons, the opportunity to "play it forward", house concerts, and others! Furthermore, if there's something that you want from me that I didn't list as an incentive, I'd be more than happy to work it into the campaign - just shoot me a message!
Thanks for taking the time to check out my kickstarter fundraising campaign friends! May we breathe deeply, seek within, and go about forevermore...
