About

I want to create something fun. I also want to just create! I have been a creative person for as long as I can remember, and collaborating on a project can be a wonderful thing.

My hope is that I can create a truly open and free platform for organic creation of writing and stories. Think Google Docs meets Drawball.

A web-based writing environment, with communally written documents penned by tens or hundreds, maybe even thousands of people in real time. Maybe a group of friends, maybe complete strangers. Maybe the whole internet. But each one wanting to contribute and weave their ideas into the narrative.

In RE:Words, users will be restricted in how many actions they can perform per day (such as deleting, replacing or adding a word to the story) using a similar system to mobile gaming apps where you have a maximum number of actions and they regenerate over time. I am ball-parking it at a maximum of 20 actions and a regrowth rate of one per six minutes. Meaning if you sat there and edited as they regrew, you could write 10 words per hour.

The ultimate goal is to allow users to start a document with their friends (or the public) and collaborate on stories using this organic means of adding and removing text. Ideally it would also have a system where if a section of prose is not edited for a while the text would lock, and be preserved. Perhaps the document creators or moderators would have powers to further edit these preserved sections.

Further features may include a rating system for both people and text, so people can gain or lose stats, For example: how many words they can edit, and if they’re allowed to edit at all. Within private groups, the rates of action regrowth may be editable. Certain divisive parts of the story could be voted on to be removed or improved. Also Moderators/Admins for dealing with outbreaks of negativity on public stories.

So why do I need money? For the design and creation of the environment. For hosting and maintenance of it. And for future expansions and upgrades.

I can't do this alone, or on my own dime; It just would never get started. So let's give it a kick.

Risks and challenges

I have had this idea for a number of years but do not have the technical skills to create it. I come from a background of art and graphic design. And I've spent my whole life reading, and loving books, dreaming about creating projects and seeing people enthusiastically interacting creatively.

I don't think I could make this project happen on my own, but I truly believe I am the person to motivate and share my vision with a small group of talented people.

Hopefully as soon as there is a working environment online, we can start letting the VIP members and regular members start testing it for us. There may be need of some major revisions of the way the system works before we go public.

But then...it'll be pure storytelling in action.
