About this project
A Brief – But Important – History
My name is Joshua. I am the sole creator and designer of Path to Power. This card game has been an innovation of mine since I was only 13 years old, and has been in an ongoing stage of development for the past 6 years (yes that makes me 19 now). I was one of the Pokémon nerds, Yugioh nerds, amongst many other games as well; and I decided when I was 13 that I wanted a game of my own that was completely different than the ones previously mentioned. I wanted a game that would require strategy, wisdom, intelligence, and above all the thirst to have fun (and to reign victorious amongst your friends and possibly foes).
Designing a new game from scratch isn’t really all that simple. However, my strongest suite is imagination and that’s ultimately what was needed. So at 13 I set off on an adventure to create this game. Along the way there have been many rule changes and concept changes. Creating the game from a child’s mind to a more mature mind has really given it the dynamic feel that I wanted it to have, and I feel the designs show that influence.
When I created the original game back in 2006-2007 I didn’t have the technical skill to design the cards through graphic design. So, I went back to good old paper. I still have my original notebook with all the original ideas, rules, and cards. Believe it or not it still plays an important role to remind me of the base rules I invented at that time (however it needed a few modifications, including some definite spell check).
(Original Notebook Binder)
Like I said before, the cards were designed on colored construction paper, and took me around 2 months to finish. I sat at the downtown library in the back and chopped away like a ninja. Lo and behold, 2 months later I had a (very flimsy) prototype!
(The Original Cards)
This picture really doesn’t do justice to how many cards really are there. I hand wrote everything with shiny pens and black ink. This version of the game wasn’t really that bad, minus many various game flaws that were overlooked by my 13 year old mind. The game wasn’t a total crash and burn, but it fizzled due to some unfair player advantages discovered through a couple of game play cycles.
Here is some original artwork (I was 13 when I made it and I’m a little embarrassed to show it) of the Path to Power character “Zocktune the treacherous.”
(Zocktune in his 2006-2007 form)
However, from the ashes of darkness sprouted a new light. I took the next few years learning graphic design (around 5 years, and a few courses later), while I slowly modified the game. The new Path to Power was born and I went back to the drawing board with my old sets of rules and cards. The game has now had a handful of revisions, in both design and game play. I believe with a more mature mind I was able to cover many more aspects of unfairness and advantages and was able to level the playing field.
After all these years of working (with my original dated notebooks and binders) I have finally found a source to produce the game! Everything is 100% assembled in America (economy support baby!) out of mostly green environmentally friendly products and the company is ready to start producing sets. This brings me to my next point of interest…
Where does the money go?
This definitely needs answering, so let me spell it out for you. First, finalizing the game’s artwork would be number one. After all, who wants dull playing cards? - (NOT ME) - Next, printing time. Running the 1st Limited Edition copies off the line will be a no brainer. Another important task to tackle is Website creation. How are people supposed to find you and your fantastic game if there is no place to physically FIND IT? Look below to the website section. Then we have “GRIMCON”. For a further explanation on these cooked up plans look below. This brings me to the creation of the booster packs. Path to Power is a game where players can build their own random event and grim decks off of the primary ones (brief game description and images below) so everybody’s set of the game is different! How cool is that? One set of rules, with hundreds of variations!
What is GRIMCON? This is an event I came up with because of many different circumstances. First, the amount of kids in my town as opposed to any stimulating events and businesses is unreal! In other words, “there is literally nothing to do within 45 miles but there are a lot of kids!” So, I would like to announce GRIMCON. This will be an event held once per month for a whole year! It will be a catered event, hosted by my brother and myself. Path To Power game sets will be provided for kids to come in and play. There will be a set amount of seats each month (and will probably grow drastically as people begin to know about it, and once I get the local paper on board.) I would like to give away prizes for winners, and through raffles.
People who come will always get a complimentary pass card and necklace with the date on it so that they can show their friends that they went to “GRIMCON.” This will be a great way to stimulate some of the local kids and I am seriously itching to teach lots of new people how to play. Plus I’m really excited about giving out rewards!
I would also like to build a website to show a timer counting down to the next GRIMCON event…Then, on event day LIVE STREAM the whole convention on the site and archive it for future viewing by anyone. After it’s over, reset the timer. Rinse and repeat basically.
Since we’re talking about the website…
Path To Power Website:
This website will be a place where people can talk about the game, and can even suggest fixes and game errors. They can get their hands on game booster sets and watch how to set up videos. Also, this is the same place where GRIMCON LIVE will be hosted for everyone watch. (Basically allowing anyone to attend the convention through their computer)
It’s a place where people can come for game support. In today’s time you have to keep your players updated on game changes, or rule changes. This is simply because as people play the game there are always those little discoveries that get exploited.
The website will be a fantastic way to keep in touch with the player base and to keep them up to date.
The New Path to Power
What is Path to Power?
With nearly 500 unique cards PTP, as I like to call it, is a fantasy based war strategy RPG game. The players take the roles of the worlds “Warlords” who each command an army. The point of the game is simple, be the last one standing. Or in other words, destroy and obliterate everyone else’s armies as quickly as possible. But be careful! Gods, rogue armies, monsters, titans, legendary warriors and many more creatures are all locked in the death grip power struggle for dominance. Some of them even want to form alliances!
Path to Power has many different game modes which allow players to test their knowledge of the game in many different ways. You can play a normal game run through, or you and a friend can challenge the games three Gods for command of the lands. It’s really up to you. But don’t stop there; the many other game modes might suit you even better.
Players use customized cards such as attachments, grim cards, titans, plus many more to strategize their win. They roll three 20 sided dice to decide their attack power each phase, as well as to decide many other aspects of the game as they go along. There are many variations of cards which makes each set of game play unique from the last.
Players can also take “in-game” power quests, form alliances (even with the Gods), plus many more aspects which give the game a very dynamic element. It’s not very hard to learn, because nearly all of the cards explain what they do and what they can be used with right on the front. The rules are relatively simple, and the player phases are easy to comprehend.
The game also comes with “Player Mats” as well as a “Center Mat” which helps you organize the various components of the game. This way you know how many slots you have open for attachments, how many grim slots are open, etc. Path to Power is truly a test of your skill as a commander and will force you to think like a warrior!
As a quick introduction, here are the Warlord, Titan, and God Names:
Zocktune the treacherous
Layleeka the healer
Wrocktoo [Rock-to] the great

Close Up Of The New Artwork:
(Below is some 1st edition artwork of the box, mats, and the cards.)
(Box and Dice)
50k (Not Complete)
Everyone above the $100 level will receive a paperback copy of my short story book called “Silent Night.” This was never intended to be read by anyone but my family. It’s mainly horror/suspense and had been a two year work in progress until I finally published it. Let’s make this reward so we can make the next level!
100k (Not Complete)
Remember the picture of all those cards I showed you above? Well, I now call that version of the game PTP Classic edition. If we make it to this level everyone above the $100 level will also receive a playable version of PTP Classic! With all of its fantastic loopholes and unfair advantages!
