Brought to you by the makers of the California Rail Map, the Northeast U.S. Rail Map, and the world-famous U.S. High Speed Rail Map, the High Speed Rail Game is a fast, fun, and educational game for 2 to 6 players where you negotiate with other politicians to bring high speed rail to your voters.
Featuring innovative gameplay mechanics designed to capture the wheeling and dealing in infrastructure politics, the High Speed Rail Game takes a simple, interactive approach: when it's your turn to lay new track, you'll ask the other players for proposals and pick one to go with. With games averaging an hour and randomized starts, it's designed to please everyone from the experienced gamer to your housemates.
Keeping it Simple:
- Only 1 page of rules.
- Sets up in 1 minute: just shuffle the cards and go.
- All math limited to single digit numbers.
- Just four types of tiles.
Form Your Party:
Eighteen voter blocs represent different regions and industries in the U.S. You represent three of them. Two are public for the other players to see, the third, well, that's your hidden agenda! To win, you'll want to satisfy at least two of your three.
It's a Big Country Out There:
It's over 2,500 miles - or 17 tiles - from coast to coast. Maybe you're stuck in a corner? Don't worry - everyone gets to lay a couple lines of their choice to start with.
Go Make Some Deals:
On your turn, other players will propose where they want to extend the system to, and you'll pick from their choices. Want to do some "I'll pick yours if you'll pick mine"? Go for it. Maybe they'll return the favor, maybe they won't. It's not personal, it's politics!
Two Party System:
While 3 or more players are recommended for the High Speed Rail Game, rules have also been created for games between two players.

Actually Learn Something:
The High Speed Rail Game isn't just meant to be fun - it's also designed to illustrate current high speed rail proposals, plans, and challenges.
The cities on the map are the largest metro areas in the U.S. Bigger cities like New York and politically influential swing states are more likely to be part of your goals. Cities amongst mountainous terrain are separated by awkward geometry. Supercommuters traveling from Virginia to New York? California High Speed Rail? There's a card for it.
The High Speed Rail Game will be released under a Creative Commons CC-BY-SA 4.0 license. Anyone will be able to download the free print & play PDF.
Prices are for those in the US and include free shipping to anywhere in the US. For elsewhere, please see below. All parts other than glass tiles are printed or made in the USA. Source of glass tiles is unknown (I get them from Etsy).

Risks and challenges
This is my 4th Kickstarter project. Game design is complete. The game has been tested extensively and is playable and enjoyable.
Production of the game is done at local copy shops in Berkeley, California for the basic edition with additional parts for the deluxe edition from The Game Crafter in Madison, Wisconsin (www.thegamecrafter.com) and Litko Game Accessories in Valparaiso, Indiana (www.litko.net). Production time is 1 day for the basic edition and about 2 weeks for the deluxe edition. Should there be extremely high demand (as in more than 200 copies ordered), orders may take longer to fulfill but will get to you early December 2014 at the latest.
Rewards are listed as "US only" because Kickstarter does not have an option for only certain countries. If you are not in the US and do not see your country listed above, please contact me with your desired reward level so I can provide an accurate cost and time estimate for shipping.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
