California Water Crisis is a fun and educational game about California water politics. Take the role of one of California's three main regions (NorCal, SoCal, and the Central Valley) and try to find a solution to the fundamental cause of California's drought: there's more water demand than there's water.
Based on extensive research on California water history and current conditions, California Water Crisis will expose you to real world challenges such as special interest groups, groundwater depletion, and population growth.
Providing realism and replay value, the 3 regions have different starting resources, weaknesses, and potential strategies. This game takes about 10 minutes to learn and about 40-60 minutes to play.
Creative Commons: The game will be published as a free downloadable Print and Play PDF, released under a Creative Commons Attribution license, at the conclusion of the funding campaign.

If total funding reaches the levels below, I'll work on additional scenarios for the game. Get even more replay and learning value with these historical and forward-looking challenges!
$600 - New Scenario: The Bad Old Days - Unlocked! It's the late 19th century, and the three regions are competing to be the economic capital of the state. Hydraulic mining is still producing gold in the Central Valley, and San Francisco has emerged as the West Coast's leading city. Meanwhile, Los Angeles, a desert town of 10,000 people to the south, has big plans for aqueducts. New rules for this scenario will be included with all editions of the game.
$900 - New Scenario: Climate Crisis. It's the late 21st century. Storms and rising sea levels are sending waves of climate refugees to the USA and you'll need to ration food and water. Balance farming in the desert versus costly and unreliable imports. New rules for this scenario will be included with all editions of the game.
Risks and challenges
This is my 5th Kickstarter project, and 2nd board game. All my projects have successfully funded. Game design is 99% complete and has been tested extensively. Just a few minor changes to numbers are expected for balancing.
For the Basic Edition, all production is done by myself locally in Berkeley, California. These will be mailed within a week of funding completing. You will get this in late November / early December.
The Standard and Deluxe editions require parts from The Game Crafter in Madison, Wisconsin. I've used them for previous games and they are reliable. These orders will take a few weeks to fulfill - exact time depends on how busy they are and could be as much as 2 months. Based on past experience it will be most likely late January. Although potentially possible, do not expect to receive your game before the holidays.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
