The Legacy of Tailgating and Great Traditions
ABOUT OUR PROJECT
Hi, I am Brandin Hawthorne and my Kickstarter project is making a video about the Tailgating Traditions of Football Saturday here in Michigan. We are going to spend the fall documenting the various activities that our fans participate in on game day. Knowing that our tradition is so rich and we pride ourselves off it, we wanted to document everything that makes game day amazing.
When our documentary cut is done, we intend to put our footage in a folder for others to remix or see behinds the scenes. We want to share and promote sharing because we think that sharing in an idea is part of crowd-funding and it only makes sense that we share what everyone is working together to fund.
HOW WE CAME UP WITH THE IDEA
Being a student athlete at a major university we never get to enjoy the festivities that all our fans celebrate, from things like welcome week and tailgating on Saturdays, to all of our different homecoming events and just hanging with the fans and enjoying the moment.
We have been busy with our community art and garden projects down in Florida and we wanted to take the fall to also connect with our Michigan community. Football is what brings us together, so we decided to make a video that we can share with everyone. We have heard about what goes on during the weekends and how much fun it is and now its time to explore what makes you all the best fans in the world.
As Alumni, we wanted to be sure we can provide the highest quality film that represents the education we have received as Michigan Graduates.
Mostly, Michigan Football is a brand and we wanted to secure rights to being able to be free to film around the stadium and not have to blur out logos that fans may wear, and any other expensive issues that may occur. We wanted to be able to capture the full picture, compensate artists, and not be limited by commercial restrictions.
Also, it is important to us that when people see our film, people say, "How creative and entertaining. It looks really nice." We have set the bar high because that is the only way we know how to play.
In Search of the Best Grilled Entree.
Vincent and Brandin will visit different tailgates to discover different cooking traditions. If you have a hot sauce or a grilling secret we want to come visit and check it out. If you think you have the best entree, let us know and we will be the judge.
Personal and Group Traditions.
We want to meet our community. Do you wake up at 4am to drive 4 hours to set up your bbq? Have you been tailgating with your dad or mom since they were children, and have they been tailgating with their parents before that? Who has the oldest tradition? What do you do on game day? What is your favorite weekend? What do you do around Ann Arbor?
Best Costume and Best Team Spirit.
Vincent and Brandin will host a costume contest. Winner gets dinner and a prize. Show us how you celebrate and get pumped for the game.
We had a lot of invites and heard a lot of claims of “THE BEST SPOT” so we are going to investigate those claims. Do you think you have what it takes to be considered the best?

DETAILS ABOUT OUR DOCUMENTARY FOCUS
Our project is to document the traditions like Best Food, Best Spot, Personal Traditions (that fans have on game day as a family or as an individual). And of course we have to feature the Best Fan and Best Team Spirit.
With our focus in Michigan we are hoping to get more alums to come back and enjoy themselves with the fans. The purpose of what we are doing here in Michigan and in Florida is to connect our communities.
We also wanted to just play games with our peers. We had paintballed with some Alumni for our last rewards and it was so much fun we want to do it again. Working as a team and having fun can be a good way to connect with diverse people.
