I am SO close to my final stretch goal! It's not too late to join me in printing my debut book and making new music. Can you help me reach $3,000 in 3 days?
Here's what $50,00 allows me to create:
- A new book, The Road To Becoming
- A new 5 song EP, To Be Well: Songs for Healing
- Printed and digital downloads of both to all Kickstarter backers pledging $25+
- 1,000 printed EP's to GIVE AWAY to vulnerable women in shelters, prisons and recovery houses
I am only $3,000 short of making this all possible and can't do it without you. Thank you for being a part of this journey with me. I am honored to write stories and make music that invite people to draw near to God.
Much Love and Let's Do It!
p.s. Don't forget about the incredibly generous offer from a supporter to MATCH ANY NEW PLEDGE (or pledge increase), up to $10,000 for the remainder of the campaign!!!
May 2, 2014
Seventeen days ago I launched a Kickstarter campaign to help fund my debut book, The Road to Becoming. Days later, a group of people more deep, wide, diverse and passionate than I EVER had the courage to dream up banded together to raise over $43,000 to fund not only my book, but NEW MUSIC too! Just writing that brings tears to my eyes. In two short weeks I will join my producer in the studio to start work on my EP, To Be Well: Songs for Healing.
As I reflected on these incredible gifts, I felt a God-given urgency to give away this message of becoming and being made well. I want to give away 500 copies of the new EP to the women I meet and perform for throughout the year who are just coming out of prison or the sex industry, living in recovery houses or shelters. $50,000 would allow me to turn the digital EP into physical copies to GIVE AWAY! So with a little more than a week left in my campaign, my initial $20,000 goal has turned into a $50,000 goal that includes a book, new music and giving it away to women who need it the most. And the wine, fish and loaves multiply.
Will you join us?
Because here is the REALLY amazing part:
A private donor has stepped up and offered to MATCH ANY NEW PLEDGE, up to $10,000 for the remainder of the campaign!!! So here’s the invitation- help me raise $10,000 in the next few days, it will be DOUBLED upon completion of the campaign, and then we will be able to double what we give away.
Help me give away 1,000 EP’s to the women who most need God’s redemptive message of HOPE NOW.
Remember, once we hit $50,000, every Kickstarter partner ($25 and above) will receive a physical and digital copy of BOTH the book and EP! Plus, all backers will be invited to join me for an exclusive online acoustic concert from my living room to yours.
We’ve surpassed all my stretch goals, so let’s dream bigger. Let’s give it all away!
Much Love and Gratitude-
When I launched this campaign, my deepest hope was to support the printing, publishing and release of my debut book, The Road to Becoming. I never imagined you would partner with me to surpass that goal in such an astounding way. I am so humbled, honored and excited!
With the incredible support already shown, and a multitude of friends and family who would still like to contribute to my work... I think it's time we make new music!
If we reach:
$20,000 *GOAL REACHED!: Book
$25,000 *GOAL REACHED!: Book + marketing the book
$40,000: *GOAL REACHED!: EVERY BACKER ($25 and above) will receive a brand new 5-song E.P. titled, To Be Well (digital copy only)
$50,000: EVERY BACKER ($25 and above) will receive a brand new 5-song E.P. titled, To Be Well(physical AND digital copy!) + EVERY BACKER ($15 and above) will have access to a private Kickstarter backer-only online concert live from my living room.
To Be Well (the title I scribbled out in bed one night) is a collection of songs inspired by the writings of Robert Benson and the story of a paralyzed man whose friends carried him across town, ripped a hole in the roof and lowered him down to the feet of Jesus. In Robert Benson's book, Between the Dreaming and the Coming True, he talks about a moment in his own life when Jesus asked him if he was ready to be well. Benson says in that moment he was "too tired, too ill, too afraid, too uncertain" to say yes to Jesus' invitation. It was Benson's sister, a nurse in the psych ward, a handful of friends who answered and a couple of dozen strangers who uttered a resounding YES for him. And they took him to the Healer.
And isn't that often the case? Like the paralyzed man in scripture whose friends put him on a mat, carry him across town, climb a roof, dig a hole through the clay and lay him at the feet of Jesus; we often make it to the healer because someone else was brave enough to bring us there.I am so captured by this idea of Jesus offering to make us well and the beauty of saying yes for ourselves, and yes for each other. So late one night, several months ago, I scribbled down the album title To Be Well and began praying that I could write songs that would honor our journey towards the Healer.
These songs, some written and some still working themselves out in my soul, are about those moments when Jesus invites us to be made well. And it's about the people who carry us to the Healer when we can't say yes to the invitation ourselves. If these sound like songs you want to hear, join me in pushing this campaign a little bit further and let's make music...
With much love and gratitude for each of you,
The Road to Becoming
I finally wrote it! Join me as I publish my first book.
the becoming (verb): the process of unraveling, burying, lostness, waiting and beautifully, painfully, being made new.
My Road to Becoming
Hi. My name is Jenny. You might know me from the band Addison Road. Or maybe you're like me and have NO IDEA who sings the song, you only know that you love it and it feeds your soul. So maybe you don’t know the name Addison Road or Jenny Simmons, but maybe you’ve heard my voice on songs like Hope Now, What Do I Know of Holy, This Little Light of Mine, Fight Another Day, All That Matters, Sticking With You, Heaven Waits for Me, What Faith’s About or Don’t Lose Heart.
I have been creating music for thirteen years. Ten of those years I had the amazing joy to make music alongside my husband and dear friends in the band Addison Road. The past two years I have poured myself into my debut solo album, The Becoming.
After countless miles in the sky and on the road, 6 albums, 1 #1 single on Christian radio, two major thefts, one major wreck, a fire that plunged us into near bankruptcy and an ungodly amount of meals at Taco Bell, Addison Road came to the end of our road in 2011. What happened next?
I spent an entire year having meltdowns on spaghetti aisles. The daunting words “now what?” plagued my soul and I began a spiritual journey I have come to call The Becoming. My debut book, The Road to Becoming, was born during this season.
So Who is the Book For?
Anyone walking through a season of heartbreak, change, waiting or the dreaded “this is not how I planned it” moments of life. As I have shared these stories at shows, men and women of every age and life stage have deeply resonated with them. Unexpected widows, couples who can’t conceive, college students who haven’t quite landed their dream job (aka- back at home with mom and dad), recovering every-bodies, and girls like me- who thought they had a decent handle on their life and then watched it go up in flames.
This book is for anyone who needs to be reminded that our God is good at deserts and our roads to becoming are holy seasons that lead to new life.
How Long Have I Been Writing?
I wrote my first book when I was four-years-old. I sold it to my grandparents for $1.00 That was a lot of money in 1984. I’ve been writing ever since. For the past seven years I have been formally writing about my life’s journey over on my website. www.jennysimmons.com.
So many of you have joined me along the way. 566 blogposts. Nearly one million words. Over 10,000 comments and conversations started. I write about things like my obsessive compulsive disorder, what to do when you swallow a fly, how I accidentally ended up at a nudist spa, how I am learning to celebrate my failures, why I can’t quit the church, that time I flunked motherhood at a Holiday Inn Express, fighting for marriage even when you are praying your spouse might somehow choke on a chicken bone, the importance of community gathered around the table and Christ.
How Will I Fund This Project?
I need to raise a minimum of $20,000 in order to fund the production, printing, and marketing of my book, The Road to Becoming.
The initial $20,000 budget covers editing, copy-editing, typesetting, graphic design, e-book creation, digital servicing to Amazon and other e-retailers, promotions and my first run of 1,000 copies of the book.
I continue to sing, write and speak because this world is full of beautiful, redemptive stories. God is making himself known all around us and I believe stories and songs are one way in which we can see that more clearly. Also, my husband (and biggest supporter in the world) bugged me for an entire year to write this book and pen these songs. Every. Single. Day. I had to shut him up.
You believe God is making himself known all around us and have experienced hope that comes jumping off the page at just the right moment, too. You have journeyed with Ryan and I. Read the blogs. Lived with my music. Watched Annie grow up. Joined our family in this little journey of up's and down's. You want to support independent art that draws people back to the heart of Jesus. Or you simply find the idea of the book meaningful for yourself or someone you love.
Whoever you are-
wherever you are-
for whatever reason-
Thank You for journeying alongside of me.
I am grateful to be on the this Road to Becoming with you.
Risks and challenges
There are always risks and challenges to releasing a book independently. But, the book is already written and in the hands of my amazing editor. My team and I are very confident that we can pull this project off without any problems or delays. Should we experience any problems at all along the way, we will be sure to let all backers know immediately.
