About this project
Let's Bring 300 FREE Music Events to Philadelphia on June 21st!
On Saturday, June 21st, Philadelphians will join more than 500 cities worldwide that celebrate the impact of music in our lives and in our communities on the summer solstice. On that day, participants in Make Music Philly will feature free music performances all day long.
Make Music Philly is a collaboration of individuals and organizations, featuring all kinds of music, from organized concerts to informal jam sessions, and performers of all ages and talent levels. Music makers and music lovers come together in parks, venues, stores, and pubs for a daylong celebration of neighborly goodness with free music all over town.
The inaugural Make Music Philly on June 21, 2013 featured approximately 150 free music events and involved 50 organizations. This year, you can help bring 300 FREE music events to Philadelphia on June 21st, 2014.
For Make Music Philly to be a success we must raise the awareness level. The more people who know about and participate in Make Music Philly, the more music events there are for everyone to enjoy!
Make Music Philly is hoping to raise $20,000 for
- The amazing web site that serves as a matchmaker system for artists and venues and a complete, searchable listing of all events.
- Print Materials for getting the word out grassroots style.
- Media advertising
- T-shirts for attendees, volunteers and you!
Musicians and venues are registering events all over the city already! Those events will be mapped and listed on the Make Music Philly web site, app and printed guide and folks from all over will come to Philadelphia to enjoy free music, all day, all over!
Risks and challenges
Make Music Philly 2014 will happen. How many events we have and whether we continue for years to come is dependent on how much we can get people involved.
Challenges for getting people involved include getting musicians and venues excited about Make Music Philly enough to perform and host for free. We may be competing with other events in the area which could draw some audience away, and of course, much of this is outside, so weather could play a role.
This is an amazing opportunity to turn the spotlight on all the wonderful places and incredibly rich music scene Philadelphia has to offer. Bringing more tourists to our town and having a good time doing it is a win-win for everyone in Philadelphia!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
