About this project
Dear Supporters & Backers,
$2,550 is the minimum we need to successfully complete this Kickstarter campaign. If we don’t reach the goal, we get nothing and your credit card will not be charged. If we get more than the minimum, every dollar will go directly to the film and the classroom to continue to make our classroom a great learning environment. Every dollar truly does count. Please help us!
Our School and Program
Creative Connections Arts Academy is located in North Highlands, CA and is one of 56 schools in Twin Rivers Unified School District. It is a charter school that serves 155 middle school students in grades 6th through 8th.
Our charter school is a public school, but differs from traditional public schools because our focus is in the arts. Our school infuses the arts into our students' daily curriculum. Film class, dance, band, choir, and game design are a few classes that our students have to choose from.
My film class consists of 32 students that act, direct, film, edit, and perform all the necessary behind the scenes operations are needed to create a film. Our equipment is purchased through past fund raising, donation from parents, or using my personal budget (don’t tell my wife).
The making of "Live & Die by the Rock" is a culmination of what my 32 middle school students have been learning throughout this 2012-2013 school year. As their teacher, I try to instill life skills through the platform of film making. It’s a rewarding experience having students get to explore their imagination and follow-through on topics they are interested in. They get to make mistakes and not feel bad about them. They learn that success comes from within and that experience is what will help them persevere in life.
The students participate in everything from storyboards, lighting and sound, acting, editing, and camera work. They have worked extremely hard from pre-production to post-production. Additionally, this Kickstarter event is focusing not only on post-production, but on the Live & Die by the Rock red carpet premiere at the Crest Theatre in Sacramento, CA on Saturday April 6, 2013.
Risks and challenges
After this Project is funded, there is no stopping us! We have set our goal to premiere this film at the historical Crest Theater in downtown Sacramento and that's what my students and I are striving for. Please help us reach our goal.Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
