Greetings Fellow Collectors of Eldritch Artifacts!

In this update we'd like to share Stygian's inventory system.

Let's start with a video showcasing the system, and then talk more about its features and our design approach.

Stygian's inventory consists of the following sections:

Paper Doll - shows all the items the player currently has equipped, including weapons, outfits, artifacts, a backpack and things of that sort. We are pretty sensitive about customization and aim to display the player's choices with as many visual representations as possible. We're also designing unique models for special items such as rare weapons and gadgets. We are keenly aware of the fact that we RPG players love to play with our dolls, preferably voodoo dolls...

Statistics - shows almost all of the secondary statistics which affect combat and exploration. Potential effects of the items will be displayed as a tool-tip in the form of colored numeric modifiers.

Party inventory - shows all items in the party's possession. Stygian uses a shared inventory system so you won't need to spend time shifting carried items from one character to another. Less item management, more black magic, count us in!

Item category tabs - grant easy access to all the items you'll need to prolong your hopeless struggle against the shapeless horrors of the abyss. Tabs are divided into the following categories: Weapons and ammo, outfits, consumables, tools and gadgets, artifacts, books and tomes, quest-related items, miscellaneous, and of course the favorites tab, which can be customized by the player.

Quick items - allows you to set certain items to be instantly available during combat and exploration. Don't forget to add your favorite smokes to one of the quick item slots. Cigarettes are essential for reducing stress but remember not to smoke them all because the Cigs have become Arkham's rising currency!

As you can see, we tried to build upon the inventory features typical of western role playing games while balancing convenience and thematic flavor. We also chose to use larger icons for our items in order to include more detail, increase immersion, and show off the efforts of our talented artists.

Finally, for the closure of this unholy update, Cultic Games present you the talented leather artisan, Master Sebo, working on our Special Edition Game Tomes! These hand made books of madness will bring doom to your neighborhood when the game is out.

So please share your opinions with us fellow cultists and seekers of the forbidden knowledge. Are we walking the path of desolation gracefully?

Until we meet again, sailing through the tides of the black unknown...

I really wish I would have been able to afford the leather tome edition. I hate being poor. Oh well. At least I get to play this amazing game when it comes out. Everything is looking amazing, thanks for all the hard work guys!

Are any of the items or outfits gendered? Will I be able to put any character in a dress or suit as whim demands?

    4. Strange Matter on

Very impressive! I was afraid the characters would be rigid archetypes, but this goes way beyond my wildest expectations :) Can't wait to try out all the customization options

In addition to making the quest items not take space, you could also have "false" clues in that some items that aren't all that important end up there--ex. scraps of notes that you pick up with bits of lore that don't necessarily help with gameplay.

    9. Kristijan Zuzija on

      That's absolutely amazing!

@Eduardo I guess people will avoid dropping quest items just by default since they will be in their separate tab in inventory.

@Cultic Why not make quest item tab pretty much a hidden inventory, meaning you can see it but it won't take inventory space? So you can have 66/90 regular items and infinite amount of quest items

    11. Eduardo Ochoa on

Yeah, I definitely understand that some player dropping a quest item because the inventory limit(crap, how i hate those things) so that way you provide some safeguard against those kinds of mistakes. Still I hope this issue will find an solid alternative to the "hey, look at me! I´m a very important item, you know"(please, read this with the zelda fairy in mind) which fits better the overall tone of the game.

By the way seriously thinking about the proposal...

    12. Cultic Games Creator on

      @Eduardo
We definitely understand your concern Eduardo and gave some thought about this issue on our design meetings. We decided to indicate the quest items due to the possibility of the player getting rid of storycentric items because she is unaware of their potential importance. We aimed to reduce frustration with this approach but still, from a storytelling point of view your words ring true. Let's see what's going to happen in the later builds ;)

For the leather tome... We can make an exception for you. If you can provide the "necessary materials"...

      Best!

    13. Eduardo Ochoa on

Everything looks great, so only two complains: while I understand the reasoning for putting something like quest items in the inventory section, I think it can become too obvious to the player to have every object listed that way, reducing the "mistery" and sometimes bothering the player. I can understand that some objects like "red key", "blue key" and "yellow key" appearing as marked but with other ones it can be like ......SPOILER..... explaining the true purpose of the golden egg in PsT as soon as you aquire it ........END OF SPOILER....... a pain in the ass cause it gives the player too much information. I don´t know how to explain myself better, so I would suggest to spread the quest items between the rest of the categories, getting a more natural feel to the game(I hope you can understand hat I´m trying to say).
The second complain is why the f***k the leather tomes aren´t made of human skin?
