BACKED! SUPPORTED! FUNDED!

In the middle of a blizzard no less.

Thank you so much for believing in us and in the idea that a surf film could teach a little more.
We are in full-on preproduction mode from this moment forward.

This Kickstarter will still be accepting backing for the next week and every penny still counts. If we overshoot our Kickstarter budget, it only means we'll be able to make a better film.

That lens we could afford to rent...that better water proof video camera that was out of our reach... that extra off-the-beaten-path story we can afford the gas for... and most importantly the support of a community that would like to see and share a surf film about values being passed on between generations.

Squeaky bum time has passed, but feel free to still support us!

AND THANK YOU.

We are so close to hitting our goal. We are getting more excited everyday and even more good news keeps coming in. Nick Carroll has extended a huge welcoming hand. Mick Sowry, Jamie Brisick, Ty Breuer, Naomi Kazama, Rebecca Olive, Jonno Durrant and Stefan Hunt among others have all been putting the good word out for us in Oz. Jack McCoy and Nathan Oldfield told us to ring them up to see if they are around when we hit town. Angus Wilson & Co. are expecting the week we're around so we may just be able to baptise a brand new Aussie with some Seppo good-vibes.

Baggu has joined our small group of family-style sponsors! We'll be transporting in style. The bag I've been using for everything the last year is a Baggu, so I am super extra stoked about the quality.

Nicole Delma of the Fond Group has donated the writing and interviewing skills of Alison Berman to craft a late-push PR release we're sending out to all the publications to try and get a over the last fundraising hump. If you know anyone we should send it to, let us know!

And finally, we spent Saturday with Christian Boalt of Token Surfboards. Robinson got into the shaping bay for the first time to help make his own board for the trip. Christian walked us through the whole process and really let Robinson take over. He will have had a major hand in making his own first board. Mind blowing. I made a very quickie cut of just some of the footage. Enjoy.

One week left. Five days or so! Help us get the word out!

One Week To Go

One week to go and a little over a thousand dollars off. Please, if you feel comfortable, share this project with your friends!

There's this thing I've been thinking about, that everyone starts a journey at some point. One is consistently confronted with internal shame or embarrassment or some kind of external condescension about not knowing how to "do something." But there's this moment when we decide to learn, a moment when we decide to start an adventure. That decision, the decision to start, wipes away all the feeling of shortcoming and inculcates one from those that would judge.

Another thought... this film, the process of making it, will start and end with the phrase "pay attention." This is a very different thought than "focus!" Focus to me is a narrowing of vision. Paying attention is a broadening.

So maybe on our production we'll focus on paying attention.

Today's constant battle: Robinson trying to hid the fact that he's playing an iPhone video game by "reading" a National Geographic. Classic stuff.

Eleven Days To Go, 2k Left!

Christian Boalt of Token Surfboards is starting on our boards this week. Robinson will be getting into the shaping bay with him to look at the design and process for what we think will be something of a stubbie style little floater for him. I am going the route of history, stealing inspiration from Robinson's grandpa's '78 Phil Edwards. Christian is super excited to craftily experiment on whatever we all agree upon. We will capture it all for you.

We dove in and finally purchased our tickets. We leave on the 14th and return the 27th. Long, long flight that. And the time there seems maddeningly short, even at two weeks. Our filming time will need to be efficient and well planned.

We are making moves to rent our Kombi van, having reached out to several rental places for final rates. In the next couple days we'll pull the trigger on that bit.

The redoubtable Jamie Brisick has put us on the radar of some of the heaviest thinkers in the surf world and our itinerary is going to be shaping up super fast as well. We're crossing our fingers that a McCoy or a Kidman, a Hynd or a Carroll can educate us along the way. With so many friends there excited to welcome us and show us the ropes, a little meta-level thought will fill all that out just fine with us!

And here are a few snaps from the weekend...

54% There & 16 Days To Go!

Posted by Todd Stewart (Creator)
15 new generous and visionary backers in the last two days! We are 54% there and we thank you. If you're comfortable with the idea of sharing this project, please do. We need all the help we can get.

Kevin, our trusty cinematographer, is an experienced nature videographer with years of time in the field across all seven continents. He has a wide web of professional biophiliacs, naturalists and knowers of all sorts. He is planning a special itinerary that will add that necessary environmental education about the Australian biospheres.

We've got a bunch of people stoked about our adventure on the Aussie side, and we are firming up our heritage & community itinerary there as well.

This is a community made film, so if you know something, say something! We are taking suggestions for plans between the plans we've already sorted out.

And for further viewing "pleasure" here is a quick peak into the sounds and sights of Robinson's Brooklyn morning routine:
