About this project
Mitchel Creek is an average I.T. guy from Iowa. He has a wife, a young daughter, and a simple life. That is, until he awakens aboard a spacecraft 400 years in the future, alone... except for the dead body stuffed in a crate. To find answers to why he's suddenly where and when he finds himself, and a way back home, he's forced to team up with radicals and pirates, and a woman who forces him to question everything he thought was true about the world he came from.
Singularity Deferred is a 108,000 word hard sci-fi novel involving faster-than-light travel, action and mystery, political drama, and a bit of romance. To find out more about the book, read a sample and start listening to the audiobook podcast here: www.tragic-sans.com/singularity.
I began this novel years ago, then it became my English Master's thesis. It's gone through that crucible, and then workshopped with other authors. It's ready to see the light of day, on my terms. ...and with your help! You, the very people who are my target audience, people who recognize the democratization of funding the arts, people who like to get cool things for helping people with their dreams. Speaking of which, check out what I have to reward contributors.
The Whys and Whatfors
Why do I need help funding my project? Well, I'm afraid there's design and layout, professional proofing (non-corporate publishing's never going to get the respect it deserves if the product people turn out isn't professional quality, amirite?!), printing, ISBN, distribution... and what I'm asking for help here is what I can't cover--being a poor English grad who works for a non-profit. Sad (actually, I'm a pretty happy and content guy), but true.
What if we, as a team (Yay! Go us!) go beyond my needed $1600? Everything beyond that will go specifically to the greater marketing and distribution of this novel. If we raise significantly more than my needed amount... well, obviously I'll need to come up with more rewards! But we'll build, cross, and burn that bridge as it comes up.
The Last Word
As I implied before but didn't make clear: this is a finished, edited, and test-reader'ed (I'm an English grad, I can say that) novel. In fact, I'm currently recording a podcast reading of it (which, when completed, will become a podiobook). You can freely listen to it, and read a sample of the novel, on my website. www.tragic-sans.com/singularity.
So, if you would, please be a patron of the arts -- my patron? I could really use your help.
