The story behind the book
An expatriation is a big change: it is a life-changing transition. Sara Bigwood, certified coach and expat, learned a lot from her experience when she expatriated to New York with her family in the summer of 2014.
Change impacts all of us, yet it can quickly be too much for people who are exposed to pressure, like expat moms and employees in volatile organizations. Because change affects us in all areas of our life, Sara wants to help master both personal and professional change to thrive in life and keep our balance.
She wants to share the lessons she learned to help people lead change and reduce resistance. The best way is to release this book everywhere in the world, starting with the United States and Western countries.
The Expat Method shows leaders how to identify 5 key dimensions to adapt behaviors and mindset, then grow their team and/or themselves one dimension at a time. The result is a change-ready organization that can be successful and innovative through any change.
The EXPAT Method is based on the acronym EXPAT, which stands for the 5 dimensions that are decisive when you lead change:
Just think about this: Someone who expatriates has to deal with a roller-coaster of emotions and manage stress, this is the first dimension; he has to Xpress his needs and communicate with his new environment, this is the second dimension; then he has to find the right place and create new connections; he has to adapt and be flexible; and finally, he has to use the right thinking processes to create a strong mindset.
In each dimension you will discover why it is decisive and some exercises to help you grow. It is called the EXPAT method because it is based on knowledge gained during expatriation.
What the fundraising covers
We want to raise $2500 dollars to cover publication expenses and promotion. We decided that the most effective way is to self-publish using Book Baby as our publisher. The book will be listed on Amazon and Barnes & Noble and accessible on demand.
We took the strategic decision to print a colored cover but black and white pages. It will be a soft cover to help you read and hold the book more easily than a hard cover. Soft is good during change, isn’t it? You can also check the stretch goals to unlock interesting rewards!
Why pledge now?
• Meaningful rewards: each reward is meant to help you grow and improve what you want to see different in your life.
• Impactful book: the book is ready for publishing and can potentially ease the life of many by providing easy tips to face our complex and changing world. Wouldn’t you want that for the people you love?

Risks and challenges
Sara Bigwood is the author of two books about education (published in French at De Boeck) and articles on leadership published on Ellevate Network, Huffington Post and LinkedIn. This is not her first attempt at writing but it is her first book to be published in the States.
The book is written, edited, illustrated and ready to be printed. This is why the risks and challenges are very low. We are now ready to put it into circulation for you to read.
The publication of 200 books will take approximately 3 weeks and the Kickstarter campaign takes 5 weeks in all, so you can expect it in May 2016 (don’t forget shipping time)! Everything is just one click away from happening!Learn about accountability on Kickstarter
